I'm not one to point out a colossal choke job, but when your senior point guard leader airballs a game winner with 5 seconds to play in his home court...the court where he has spent literally THOUSANDS of hours shooting baskets, it's really a head scratcher. Sapp seems like a nice guy, but his air ball and missing BOTH free throws with 2 mins to go will be what I remember of him. There are very few 1A Iowa high school girls who outright airball an open three pointer, let alone two free throws in a row.

Sapp's forte is not shooting. That's why hes a 4 year player with 600 points and a 41% FG%. 34% this year from 3. That shot has to be Jok or Uthoff, even if Sapp can get open.

Pretty poor, been critical of the kid in the past, was maybe our best player for some of this season early, but that was poor, on Senior nite, poor.

When you have your two PGs in todays CBB who cant make open 3s (or wont even take them) and cant make FTs...you got a problem. Fran's biggest mistakes or shortcomings in his time at Iowa are not landing Washpun or Ulis.

Simple as that.

I have been saying all season that Sapp should be coming off the bench. He would still get 20-25 valuable minutes. I would have him take over pg and sit MG the last 5 minutes of the game. Start Bauer since he is an outside threat and always in the right place. I have also been on the Williams bandwagon all year. I hope he keeps getting more minutes.
Fran needs to do away with his 2 fouls and you sit philosophy. It is making our defense timid because they don't want to be called for cheap fouls. That is why we are giving up a lot of layups after our guards fail to stop penetration. A couple of opposing refs have altered the game early by calling cheap fouls on Jok and JU. Give them 3 fouls the first half and all 5 for the game.
It is time to shake things up. Officials aren't calling fouls like they were so we have to adapt. I still love this team and our coaches, but they have to adapt to the rough play that is being allowed. Change up the lineup please to spark this team. They are playing better the last 2 games, but still not anywhere near 100%.
We can't have Mike in at the end of games. It has happened too many times to be a fluke. That late TO by Mike was the ballgame. We had all of the momentum and were on our way to a win.

It wasn't a "game winner" shot unless you thought they were going to give him 4 for making it.

Who is Bauer?

I don't think anyone is more disappointed than him. And I won't remember that one specific play. And yes I am wearing my Pollyanna rose colored glasses. But c'mon. That kid hustles and plays hard every game.

I think Clemmons has gotten way too much of a pass for criticism. In fact, I'd say he's been the most disappointing senior. Followed closely by Gessel.

I appreciate the effort Clemmons has given, but you just don't see high school kids miss a shot so bad.

But don't forget this: When it appeared the game was already over, Clemmons came down and hit the three that set up the heartbreaking final 7 seconds and then 2.1 seconds. Without that first three, the game was over. So give him credit for hitting the shot that gave Iowa two more chances to get to OT.

Every since Sapp balled out on "The Journey", his journey has went right into the toilet.

Same as Uthoff when he was getting accolades.

It was a major choke job. On that play I was hoping AC would set a screen for Uthoff. Uthoff would have had to take 1-2 dribbles going to his left and he would have been wide open. Still Sapp got a wide open look and didn't even come close to hitting the rim. That's brutal.

Even worse, they can't really beat anyone off the dribble. They provide you no offense so teams don't even guard them, and instead focus solely on Jok and Uthoff.

Fran's biggest shortcoming has been to land ANY quality guard after AC and MG. It's not just PG but also SG.

When someone says they are not one to point out a choke job, they probably are. May it would have made some feel better i

Reminiscent of McCabe in 2014 against Wisconsin(?). Similar location as well if I recall.

Who is Bauer?
Jack Bauer, he's the one sitting on the bench at the end of the games saying "damn it Gesell", "damn it Jok", "damn it Clemmons", "damn it Uthoff" and "damn it Woodbury". Also he's the guy that never uses the bathroom.

If you are calling them like you see them...our senior point guards haven't been very good in the last 6 minutes of many games this year. It's too bad as I think they are outstanding representatives of the University of Iowa, but you have to perform in crunch time...and they just haven't made the plays to make a difference. They have to have it, that quality that certain players have to execute and make plays with the game on the line. CJ Beathard has it...how many think if he gets the ball back with 90 seconds in the Big10 Championship game...he doesn't find a way to win it. I think so. Maybe something can change in these last four games or so...but it's doubtful. Jok and Uthoff better be making shots cause if it comes down to our Sr. guards running the show and making decisions in crunch time...history doesn't work in our favor.

Clemmons is the guy I want on the bench down the stretch. Watch the possession where Jok has to wildly drive to the basket because Clemmons fails to get us in our offense down the stretch. Play Gesell over him. Just use your timeouts and run sets at the end of the game. It shouldn't be that hard to coach that Gesell shouldn't be making plays at the end of the game.

Also why Clemmons is not at MSU with Valentine and Forbes. Clemmons has given max effort while here, stayed eligible and out of trouble, and was recruited when we were not a very desirable program. We need a legit 2 out there, not 2 pg's with limited offensive skills, but water under the bridge at this point. I would have rather seen Baer or Uhl take that shot, but AC has hit some clutch shots in the past. At least they got two good looks.

I agree that was poor, but lets talk about all the missed lay ups, dunks, standing around on offense...this is a team loss, just like the rest of them. ALL the free throws matter and he is not the only player who missed them! MG has cost us several games this year at the line, not to mention his drippling into the lane getting lost and then turning the ball over. No criticism here of JU, he has killed us with terrible shooting and seems to get lost during the game as of late. This team is in meltdown mode and its over. We will most likely not win again this year...

Why the need to tell anyone that you don't point out choke jobs, and then proceed to tell everyone what they already saw? Did anyone notice that Sapp made a 3 on the prior possession to bring Iowa back within 3? I would guess that the final miss was primarily designed to get Uthoff the 3, but Jarrod adjusted to what he saw from the defense, and thought Sapp would have a better shot. Sapp wasn't expecting to take the shot, and thought about it, instead of just letting it flow.
