Yeah, if Sargent learns the playbook, I could definitely see him receiving game-reps. He'll also need to make sure that he picks up the protections as well - because the coaches won't let a guy on the field if it endangers Stanley. That was arguably one of the things that kept Toren on the sideline last year - it was an important element of his game that he needed to improve upon.
An obvious advantage that Sargent owns over both Toren and Ivory is that he received a ton of starter snaps last year AND he was productive doing so. IWCC is a program that has players that regularly go on to play at the P5 level ... and most seem ready to do so. A number of years back, ISU had a pretty productive back by the name of Wimberly. Their RB coach thinks that Sargent is even better.
What's also huge is that he had all those snaps ... and he didn't turn the ball over much either. Furthermore, we're not talking about those high school yards where the guy breaks to the sideline and gets the untouched big-gainers. Sargent was productive at IWCC while still having a lot of those yards be hard-earned yards ... yards earned between the tackles. Furthermore, he was pretty versatile ... and he was pretty productive when catching the ball out of the back-field too.
While I doubt that Sargent wrestles the starting spot away from Toren ... I think that he's going to really help along the RB competition AND supply us with high quality snaps when he earns his carries.
