*****SAT GAME #2 IN RAIN DELAY. Official #159 RPI Penn State at #40 RPI IOWA Games Thread (All 3 games on BTN PLUS)*****

Going into Friday's games, Iowa (one of last teams in), Maryland, and Rutgers were all considered NCAA Tournament bubble teams. Maryland and Rutgers were part of the last teams considered but not making the 64 team cut.

Indiana did Iowa a favor, beating Rutgers 8-3. Same can be said for the Illini, who beat Maryland 2-0.

Lets hope the separation of the Top 4 B1G teams from the rest of the pack continues.

Current Standings (thanks @Alum-Ni ):
1. Indiana (21-9)
2. Nebraska (20-10)
2. Michigan (22-11)
4. Iowa (20-13)
..............................................................................

5. Maryland (19-14)
6. Rutgers (17-14)

6. Ohio State (17-14)
8. Illinois (16-16)
9. Northwestern (12-16)
10. Penn State (12-19)
11. Michigan State (12-21)
12. Purdue (11-20)
13. Minnesota (4-26)

Games for Saturday, May 8:

Nebraska vs. Indiana (at Piscataway, NJ)
Penn State at Iowa (DH)

RPI craziness.

If Iowa sweeps today’s DH, they will pick up 0 (yep, you read that right) RPI points.

If they split, they will lose 81 RPI points.

If they get swept, they will lose 162 RPI points.

Based upon other games being played today, it is going to be difficult for Iowa to gain any RPI points today - even if they sweep a DH.

To put it in perspective, even if Iowa sweeps, they could fall from 42 to 43, 44 or 45. If they split, they will fall to somewhere in the mid-50s. If they get swept, they will fall to somewhere in the mid-60s.

Great outing by Wallace yesterday. Just what the doctor ordered for a series opener.

Hoping that Davitt and Bauman take that lead and provide 5-6 really strong innings each.

Would really like to see the bats break out today and break out early. Lots of run support today for the pitchers. Can’t help but feel that if Iowa puts PSU in an early hole, Iowa’s chances markedly increase.

Suffice it to write, from a standings perspective and RPI perspective, taking 2 today would be HUGE.

Davitt does his job, holding PSU scoreless in the 1st inning

Rain delay for game 2? Could it go early tomorrow if not done today?

on the radio, they were saying that PSU and Iowa will get together and try to find a window where they can get the game in; it sounded like the rain does not clear out until tomorrow afternoon; and then is PSU flexible on when they fly back?
