Saturday in Iowa City will be crazy

With the new playoff system, division champions on the line, a top 5 team, night game, sold out stadium, alternate uni's, history being made for our wrestling program, this Saturday is without a doubt the biggest game in Hawkeye football history in my eyes. Let's effin kick some ass!!

We are struggling with knowing when to get to Iowa City ( not going to the wrestling) and where to park. Any suggestions??

If not tailgating, perhaps park at one of the downtown Iowa City parking garages and walk to Kinnick from downtown. Their rates are $1/hr and there are thousands of spaces.

What year did Matt Roth get carried off the field after beating the Badgers? That was a big game.

2004. We won a share of the Big Ten Title that night after Ohio St. upset Michigan. To this day, I have never seen Kinnick that crazy or heard it so loud. You literally could not hear a sound the person next to you was making (just looked like they were mouthing words to you)

There are free shuttle buses that will take you from the old capital building straight to Kinnick as well.

We always park in Hancher. Free parking, good tailgating. Cambus shuttle takes you up to the stadium. Kind of a pain in the ass getting back after the game on the same shuttle, but not terrible. We park with a large group though so we enjoy Hancher. That lot opens at 6AM but won't start filling up until after 1PM. There's always the Kinnick Express option.

Here's some information from the U of I

And you might be able to park for free. There have been a few times when I parked at a meter downtown for a game only to return and find a ticket with a fine of $0. Last time it happened was a few years ago. I called the City and asked about it. Was told that the first ticket during any calendar year is free! In Iowa City of all places. Love that law.

I would go with #1 vs #2 in 1985. Was there for the 06 f0$U game and 1985 beats it easily.

Yeah, but this game might not. Tough to beat #1 vs #14 with college gameday in town. I think that game gets disregarded because of how the team collapsed after that game.

Considering all values: atmosphere, ranking, undefeated buzz, and most importantly -- "what's at stake"...it's hard to argue that there has been anything bigger since the #1 vs #2 in 1985.

What if the wrestling team loses on Saturday? A real downer it will be, before the football game even starts. That's a real possibility. Oklahoma State is ranked No. 1 in wrestling.

I think it's a plus if the wrestlers beat OSU, but I'm just not sure it's a big negative if we lose. This new ranking has just pumped a newer level of excitement into fans that we haven't seen for MANY years.
Minnesota has never seen what they will see Saturday at Kinnick. I kind of feel sorry for them already.

So I admit I wasn't there... but the 2004 Wisky game had a lot of factors too: It was for the BigTen championship and against a top 10 opponent. I could feel the magic through the TV. Tate on spin cycle. The 4th down stop of the Badgers in their own territory. Matt Roth. In war paint.

Hard to argue that every game going forward for Iowa is pretty big in the big picture. Whatever comes next, it's rare air.

No saying it is right but, there are a lot of people going to the game that will not care about the wrestling final, and probably a lot of people going to the wrestling that don't care about wrestling and just want to see something cool. I know a handful of people that I tried to get to watch wrestling with me in college that don't get it or don't care, that are going Saturday to the meet.

We all know the only way the day is completely ruined...

Well according to the wrestling board gurus, we should win because the matchups say so.

IA wrestler A will beat OSU wrestler A because we know he will (and funny thing...he does end up winning)
IA wrestler B will beat OSU wrestler B because we know he will (and funny thing...he does end up winning)
OSU wrestler C will beat IA wrestler C because we know he will (and funny thing...he does end up winning)
etc
etc
etc

College wrestling is very predictable, so there's no need to worry about Saturday................................................amirite, fellas? Exactly...
