Yea, that's a great idea. Rather than depend on the Saudi's, we can depend on the Chinese for their rare earth minerals. The U.S. has oil but very little rare earth minerals and what we do have, the eco NAZI's won't let us get.

There are extensive efforts to move away from the rare earth mineral batteries to something more common like sodium.

You do as well. EV is a looooong way off as far as switching over to them. In the meantime, the administration(s) need to encourage drilling and oil production here at home. We’ll get to EV, but it’s going to be a long transition period. Until then, we need to produce more of our own.
Lotta holier than thou attitudes about pointing the finger at others using gasoline but not me. Give me a break, everyone is guilty of buying and using gasoline as well as buying all kinds of products that are made with and used in manufacturing process of petroleum based products.

I don’t think rare earth metals are used in lithium ion batteries. Could be wrong. Most of the lithium produced today is produced in countries at least moderately friendly with the US
Because technology isn’t there yet. The infrastructure to switch the entire country over to electric isn’t anywhere near what it will need to be. And it will take a looooong time
