Just re-watched the film. Considering the massive sacrifices made for the ideals of freedom and Democracy.

"Earn this"

What would those soldier's think of where we are at today? Of the position we are in as a nation, and of the peril to Democracy we have allowed to pervade our society?

I think many of the fallen would be rolling over in their graves. I think many of them would be appalled at the state of our current situation, the mere fact that we stand on the precipice of allowing such a pathetic excuse for a leader and group as even a mere possibility, to hand the highest office in our nation to a narcissistic despot who has at every turn signaled in the most clear terms that he cares for nothing other than himself.

At many points during my viewing of this film I noticed the clear comradery of the soldiers, fighting and laughing and crying together as I am sure so many have done in the service of our country. And I can't help but consider the fact that we may elect a man whom I have never seen laugh, or even display any sense of authentic joy or love.

We have always been told that America is the land of the free, the home of the brave. But somehow we have allowed ourselves to be sold as something far from that. Bad actors using old spun tactics churched-up via reality bending methods of thought deception have brought us to the percipience of the death of Democracy as we know it. And we are days away from a potential conclusion to whether or not we will in fact, in the long run, "Earn this".

I hope that we do, and I pray that we will.

I bet many would vote for Trump, unfortunately.

I'm not sure about the data but the military seems to be more conservative.
I disagree.

While those were more conservative times, my thoughts go to the general ideals and mindset of what was and is being fought for. And I reject the premise that those individuals, given what we know now, in the full extent of their character, would embrace what is an unequivocally clear threat to the true ideals of everything they fought for.

How many combat vets alive today are voting for Trump vs. Harris?

I have no idea but they fought dictators in Iraq.

What I am referring to is the more existential conflict and sacrifice that we haven't seen since WWII. Of course there have been many MANY conflicts that we have been involved in since, but none hold the clear righteousness or bravados of what we eventually and finally did in WWII.

And this brings me to what I see as the most powerful scene from the movie; Wade's church scene. How long will we close our eye's and turn our heads from the women in our lives whom sacrifice themselves, whom give their love and support unconditionally? When we lay our heads down on our MyPillows, and close our eyes, at the end of the day, will we be able to say that the tears in our eyes are worth a shit?

I don't think many MAGAs are able to view the world you describe.

Honor, self-sacrifice, humility, compassion... they know nothing and want nothing of those in their culture.

They do not want what's good for their country only what is bad for their enemies.

You are being overly dramatic. I would never lay my head on a my pillow. Those pillows suck.

Iraq was not our enemy at that time. They had capitulated, at least by the end of the 20th century and before 9/11. We invaded Iraq under false pretenses, which seems to have led to a lot of the divisions in this country today.

Unfortunately, it seems to be the moneyed interests which continue to divide us. And, unfortunately, IMO, it is SCOTUS who has favored these same moneyed interests, as we have witnessed by a couple of our SCOTUS justices, namely Thomas and probably Alito, and sadly, maybe even Roberts. Citizens United has been a total stab in the back of our everyday Citizens, from both the left and the right perspectives. Add to that, that money is "free speech"?, and that corporations are considered "people"?. Corporations are man made entities, not Heavenly made, and here we are.

Unfortunately, they have played us against each other by using divisive campaign issues which we still see in today's campaigns. We have been distracted, to say the least.

I think it's long past time that the American people come to this realization and demand that we get dark money out of our politics. Maybe it is a pipe dream at this point, I don't know.

They have legalized dark money to allow the oligarchs to divide us while they divide the spoils. It has become another Gilded Age in our nation's history, and it has to be defeated, for all of our's sake.

We have previoudly had laws in place to battle the oligarchs since the Great Depression, but they have slowly bought members of Congress, the Executive and regulatory branches, the Judicial branches, and even our own state governments in order to fight back against OUR interests. They have played the long game thinking that we wouldn't notice, but it has reached a point that even they have overplayed their hands.

It's long past time to fight back.

Now, who best has our interests in mind in this election is up for debate, but I personally don't believe it is a narcissist who can do and never has done any wrong and has his party's unappologetic backing, as opposed to a minority female candidate who says she backs all of us.

And, here we are.

May God guide us.
