Just re-watched the film. Considering the massive sacrifices made for the ideals of freedom and Democracy.
"Earn this"
What would those soldier's think of where we are at today? Of the position we are in as a nation, and of the peril to Democracy we have allowed to pervade our society?
I think many of the fallen would be rolling over in their graves. I think many of them would be appalled at the state of our current situation, the mere fact that we stand on the precipice of allowing such a pathetic excuse for a leader and group as even a mere possibility, to hand the highest office in our nation to a narcissistic despot who has at every turn signaled in the most clear terms that he cares for nothing other than himself.
At many points during my viewing of this film I noticed the clear comradery of the soldiers, fighting and laughing and crying together as I am sure so many have done in the service of our country. And I can't help but consider the fact that we may elect a man whom I have never seen laugh, or even display any sense of authentic joy or love.
We have always been told that America is the land of the free, the home of the brave. But somehow we have allowed ourselves to be sold as something far from that. Bad actors using old spun tactics churched-up via reality bending methods of thought deception have brought us to the percipience of the death of Democracy as we know it. And we are days away from a potential conclusion to whether or not we will in fact, in the long run, "Earn this".
I hope that we do, and I pray that we will.
