The home run ball that Kyle Schwarber clobbered onto Wrigley Field’s right field scoreboard roof in the Cubs' Game 4 win over the Cardinals in the division series has been taken down.
If you recall, the ball was placed under a plexiglass case by the Cubs after it was discovered atop the right field video board after that game in October.
The Cubs had said they would leave it there for at least the rest of the postseason, which ended with the loss to the Mets in the National League Championship Series.
Cubs spokesman Julian Green said Tuesday that the ball is no longer atop the board and was removed sometime after the season.
He would not say where the ball is now “for security reasons.” But he did confirm that it is in the Cubs’ possession in "a safe, secure place” and that they have not yet decided what its future will be.
Green also said that there is no marker atop the board to mark that remarkable moment.
Back in October, Schwarber saw the ball on the roof after losing to New York in the NLCS.
“It was really windy, it was scary,” Schwarber said at the time. “It was really cool to do. Don’t know how long it’s going to be up there, but pretty cool.”
When asked then if he wanted the ball, Schwarber said: “I don’t care. Whatever they want to do with it.”
Schwarber will be back in Chicago on Wednesday for a Cubs Caravan event with Joe Maddon at the Chicago Help Initiative Dinner program. He is also expected to attend the Cubs Convention this weekend at the Sheraton Chicago.http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...ley-field-scoreboard-cubs-20160112-story.html
