Scott Frost's Arrogance

This pure joy is coming from the fact that the Nebraska fan base is one of the most arrogant in the country. After every loss their board immediately has a meltdown but less than 24 hours later those same people start a thread saying they full expect to win next week mostly claiming the reason being “trophy case.”

It didn’t help Moos saying they had Michigan and Ohio State running a little scared. Ohio State is going to beat them down so bad they’ll be feeling the after affects next fall.

Sure. Another payout- astronomical this time! Recycle AD’s again since Moos and Frost go together. Blow up recruiting and Frost’s recruits in one fell swoop. Enshrine us as an absolute, dysfunctional coaches graveyard. Make sure no one doubts that expectations will never match reality. No one will sign on to this, and no coach is going to roll into a toxic, can’t-win situation like that except one in their career twilight looking for a money grab and with a cagey agent.

Nebraska football needs continuity and faith from fans and media more than it could possibly use anything else. If the sellout streak needs to end, so be it. Let the program breathe a bit and the pressure to maintain that somewhat artificial construct fade for a time.

Perhaps the dynamics are a little different here in Lincoln than Omaha. I guess what I’m saying is that, sure, there will be screamers eager to make the situation worse with toxic pressure and a hasty move, but they won’t carry the day because it’s obviously a death trap for the program.

To be clear. I don't expect next year to be this bad. I mean, one can hope, but that is an unrealistic dream. But there are scenarios where he wouldn't get 5 years. Very unlikely scenarios, but think Lickliter bad. Our experience with hiring the previous year's national coach of the year. We all know that Iowa is not a school that is quick to make changes and he was gone after 3 abysmal seasons. So I think if what he brings is abysmal there will be lots of pressure to move on sooner and likely that they would. But moving on from Scott Frost at that point isn't what would destroy you guys. It was moving on from the guys winning 9 games per year because they expected better.

We can all hope so.

It would be further damage added on, and would absolutely be a new low, for all the points I made before. Pelini's record looks great now, but his blowout losses were deeply unsatisfying, his recruiting was not that great and his behavior was unacceptable. The profane diatribe he hurled at his players on his last time with them after being fired was testament to that. Perhaps it was the relatively awful AD Eichorst that broke him in the first place, but that's another discussion.

If Frost sucks for 4 or 5 years, then, fine, we can try again and creditably sell the notion that our new coach would have a 'long leash'- or whatever promise it takes to get him there besides money. Fire him in 2 or even 3 without ever getting a chance to change the free-for-all culture and install his own and all the overwrought nonsense you hear people say about Nebraska would be true- as opposed to just some of it.

In Lincoln, there is nothing but patience for the most part, not a bloodbath of recrimination or calls for a change or any number of narratives sourced from a hostile Iowa fan board. He’s got 5- minimum- years regardless of record.

You bet he has five years barring a complete failure. After how they have cycled through coaches to this point...and now having their "Golden Child" back home....if they got rid of him after even four years there isn't one quality person who would take that job.

Speaking of penalties yesterday. Nebby radio folks (paraphrasing):

(Flag thrown for roughing the passer)

Radio guy 2: “there’s a flag in the backfield”

Radio guy 1: “If that is roughing the passer this is an absolute joke by the officials. This is terrible.”

Radio guy 2: “Only way it is a penalty is if (player name) hit him in the head”

Radio guy 1: “This has been a terribly called game”

Radio guy 2 upon seeing replay: “He did hit him in the head with his forearm.”

Radio guy 1: “First down Purdue at......

They weren't wrong. You said radio folks, so I assume you didn't want it. It was pretty weak. There were a number of them going both directions on Saturday. Crew was awful, and I don't say that often.

If the Cornholer cult wouldn't of spent the off season talking so much smack and pretty much over rating EVERYTHING Nebraska, other fan bases wouldn't be laughing at their current misery. What Frost did at Oregon/UCF was so over rated by Nebby and the media to get the fan base fired up! Here's your medicine when your arrogant chest thumping meets reality! Next week Frost should be 0-5 and owe'n 5 million $ to Nebraska!
We'll be alright. Painting the entire fanbase with your angry broad brush stroke...lol. There was not a reasonable poster who didn't say it would take time. Team needs to learn how to finish. Nebraska will be fine. This year is going to continue to be rough, though.

My opinions of Husker Nation don't come from message boards, I live with Husker fans daily. The Majority of them were saying they'd beat Iowa this year, Scott Frost would have them in the national title hunt within 3 years, and a bunch of other things more unpleasant. It always ends up with huffing about 5 title while holding their fingers in someones face.

This humility many fans are showing now will vaporize the moment they start winning again because the personality of Husker nation in general is narcissistic and cult like. They can't be content with just being proud or hopeful fans, they have to infest others! Yes I do know many wonderful and reasonable Husker fans and I assure you I'm one of their favorite Hawk fans...but this is where I vent! THIS IS AN IOWA HAWKEYE BOARD! This is my safe space with my other Hawk fans where we can say what the F'k we want to, stop complaining about being the bird caught in the badminton game you're intentionally flying into. I would be extremely respectful if I posted on a Husker board because good civil people do that in another's house. I don't go over there because I don't care what they think about Iowa and anything positive I think about Nebraska, I only share to my Husker friends. I'm truly not trying to be mean, just honest.

Literally every Husker fan I spoke to before the season said they expected 6-6 but felt 8 wins wasn’t out of the question. Absolutely none of them thought less than 4 was even a consideration. And they all said that I HAD to admit that Scott Frost would for sure have them playing for titles with a couple of years. They were incredulous when I consistently said that I’ve seen the flavor of the month come in with lots of hype many times before and very few have met expectations so I was reserving judgment until I actually saw that SF knew how to win in the Big Ten. I’m always amazed when I hear about these level headed and reasonable Husker fans. I’ve only dealt with the delusional variety that take great exception to the fact that I dare to live in Omaha and cheer for the Hawkeyes

Should have kept Pelini,.... Send him to charm school, teach him how to hold a press conference and upscale his game day attire,... They could all be happy Huskers right now...

All great posts so far in this thread. I wanted to add.. In reference to the cult culture... Jon Miller and Deace have a podcast called the Bigger 10. I enjoy hearing their take on Big 10 games.

Well... The last 2 weeks they had segments on the current state of Nebraska. To summarize... From the beginning its been a giant circle jerk with the love for Scott frost. even with all the penalties, etc. the media and fans refuse to put blame on him. It's causing a bad culture being set where the players are refusing to buy in. Anyway.. thought it was 100% spot on. There's more analysis too if interested in listening.

I live in Omaha and have to deal with OWH, coworkers etc.every day.

All good, man. I have done my best to not disrespect anyone over here. I've said this before, Iowa has a great rivals free board. I think Nebraska's is pretty good too. If there were more solid free boards from Big 10 schools, I'd probably swing by and be conversant with them as well. Sadly, they do not.

I understand the expectation that if someone comes to visit your house, they should show utmost respect for you and your things. I can vibe with that expectation. If we're using the analogy though, and expect certain things, should I understand that the way you treat non-Iowa fans on this board to be the same way you treat guests in your home?

So do you hear true concern about him from people with inside knowledge?

Are there people who are shocked?

Though I hate to say this, I'm not totally stunned this is happening as it can be a culture shift and they do seem to be improving.

I'll say this, Nebraska fans are great in Lincoln. I like to think we're a great place to visit for tailgating.

But Nebraska has nut case posters on line. It's just the way it is. Iowa has nut cases too.

Reality can be hard.

I had a Husker fan "guest" in my actual house last night thru morning, there was lots of sex involved so clearly I don't have issues with a person just because they're a Husker fan. ;)

I'm curious have they still been doing the polite ovation for the opposing team post game now that they're losing?

Speaking of penalties and undisciplined football, wasn't Frost's team last year one of the most penalized in college football?

What I see from Nebraska is that they are undisciplined and bad at defense but have some explosive guys on offense. And apparently there must be some issues in the locker room as guys keep transferring out.

Congrats on the sex. I'm very happy for you. :)

We even wore our team shirts, the Huskers were on top early then the Hawkeyes dominated, scoring at will! A lot of husker penalties for roughing and holding, Hawks got a targeting penalty for leading with the helmet! There were a few minor injuries but still a good game!

She's totally in love with Frost, I may have said things during the game that would get my post deleted if I repeated it!

Nebraska's free board is not "pretty good too", as they only allow for husker homerism and banning anyone with anti-husker take on a topic.

I will say our freeboard is awful, and they are way to sensitive, especially since it is anonymous. It's like who really gives a flip.

LMAO.

She sounds undisciplined. She would fit right in on our defense. I can confirm you're definitely dating a Husker.
