Scott Perry thinks the STOTU should be canceled

He…DOES know this is in the constitution, right?

Admittedly, republicans probably don’t want him to come so he doesn’t embarrass them again.

There won’t be any questions, just reading from a prompter, so I don’t think Biden’s handlers will try to avoid it.

The 1801 State of the Union Address was written by Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, on Tuesday, December 8, 1801. It was his first annual address, and it was presented in Washington, D.C, by a clerk. He did not speak it to the 7th United States Congress, because he thought that would make him seem like a king.

Well for a lot of years the state of the union wasn't a speech but a written report submitted by the POTUS to the House and Senate.

So presumably if not invited than Biden would just submit a written report instead.

Yup, and it would be a gift to Biden if Johnson didn’t extend the invite.

Hasn't Johnson already extended an invitation to Biden for the SOTU address?

Biden does well when he sticks to the script and he embarrassed republicans last year. There’s no fear from his handlers on this one.
I am looking forward to seeing Biden stumble through his space personally.
He didn’t last year.

This would be the best option for Biden because he can’t compete a sentence without the need for subtitles.

He'll do fine in that environment. It would be really dumb for him not to do it and really dumb not to invite him. It'll be the gaslighting tool the left will need after the documents report came out.

After spending a year calling him old, feeble, and senile… Biden absolutely thrashed the Repubs last year and erased all those doubts.

It’s no wonder they don’t want to repeat that again this year.

Not a comparable situation. Pelosi basically said we're not gonna have a state of the union while the government shut down. Once the government re-opened we had a STOU.
If the GOP terrorists have their way the government might not be open then.

sober cites the constitution in post #2. Do you agree with his post? If so, was there an exemption in the constitution for Nancy?

Further, you apparently need to be reminded that countless federal employees still showed up for work everyday during the shutdown.

The constitution doesn't say when it should happen. So it's up to political leaders to determine the timing.

Saying maybe doing it while the government is shut down isn't an appropriate time is perfectly acceptable. Those people that showed up to work were not getting paid, so it might have not looked good to see congress and the president holding a state of the union instead of focusing on the work of re-opening the government.

That is not the same thing as saying, "we won't invite the president at all at any time"

But whatever if he wants to do that I don't see it helping the Republicans.

Yeah and then the House would criticize its spelling and punctuation.

The dems play games with the best of them. You guys just don't like it when the other side points it out.

The SOTU is about as divisive as can be. There should be rules in place that no members clap as it is a disgrace to see the party in charge clap and the party not in charge either remain silent or put on protests. It is an embarrassment to our country and shows the lack of class our elected leaders have. I am all for having it done in the Oval Office,

I’m genuinely impressed by your ability to ignore the key difference that disagrees with your whataboutism…especially when Trump was the sole reason for that shutdown.
