Season Tickets

One thing that people may want to consider if they are thinking about purchasing season tickets in the next few years is the impact of the north end zone construction. While none of us know specifics yet, it sounds like the overall capacity at Kinnick is going to stay around 70,000. However, there will actually be a decrease in the amount of seats for the general public (which will be offset by the added suites, which it sounds like they have quite a waiting list for). So the point is that if Iowa can have a good run for a few years and that ticket demand is indeed back on the upswing, there will be less supply than what we have seen historically.

There are a few other variables as well. The last couple of years, there have been 3500ish seats that have been made available to the general public only because student sales have been down very significantly. Will the success of this year bring back the demand of the students? If so, that cuts into the supply available to the general public.

Lastly, with the home schedule that is far more attractive, most of those teams will sell all of their allotment. Most of the teams on the 2015 schedule returned almost their whole allotment. Miami (OH) and Northwestern most definitely will not, but Iowa State, North Dakota State, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nebraska probably will.

The north EZ thing won't impact anything for 2016, but the other factors will. The overall point is that single game tickets from the ticket office may become more difficult if indeed season ticket sales rebound.

I not sure about the season tickets sales but I'm completely confident that every home game, except perhap Miami(OH) over Labor Day weekend will be sellouts. I also expect a larger than normal number of Hawks to attend the road games at Minnesota, Illinois and Purdue.

Many of those that gave up season tix before kickoff last year we're older or tired fans...there is a continual thinning of the herd process going on in any year - they are still making new Hawkeye fans every day. It will be OK.

Wow you think ISU came close to us in attendance? I think not! You realize their stadium holds 10000 less then ours. And our lowest attendence was what 55000? I would guess the only game they exceeded that was our game? So again what is your solution?

They averaged almost a 61,000 seat sellout for every game. Our average was somewhere between 60,000 and 63,000.

You're an idiot.

We heard this ad nauseum over the last offseason.

Just a few wins to start the year, and every single game would be a sellout.

Indulge me and show me all of those posts that you seem to think were so prevalent from the 'last offseason'.

Guarantee that d-bag comes back and argues that we didn't have 63,412 butts in the seats every game. Well, no other school has exactly as many butts as tickets sold, so its a non-sequitur.

Im sure you'll see an uptick, but not as big as people might think. People arent going to come running back. The problem is people that let their tickets go might have realized its not worth the hassle to go every week and can spend a little extra on the big games from the secondary market and still save $$ by not buying season tickets. There was a lot of damage done to the fanbase prior to this season. Many let go of their tickets and realized this isnt bad not making that 3 hour trip, one way every Saturday. I'll renew, always do, but its tough getting the old season ticket holders back.

Most current season ticket holders weren't able to secure tickets....I'm not sure what your point is.

If I'm Gary Barta, I look at doing the following:
1. No price increase on season ticket renewals. Those who kept the faith and way overpaid for season tickets last year deserve to be rewarded with no increase this year.

2. Raise per game single ticket price by $5 per game. Increasing the face value is good for season ticket holders and those who "cherry pick" games should have to pay more per game.

3. Raise the price of new season ticket purchases by $3 per game. The people who bailed out last year but now want to come back should pay more than those who stayed loyal but should still get a break over the single game crowd.

4. Offer the $10 concession vouchers to only season ticket holders who have renewed for 10 or more consecutive years. There should be a reward to the folks who have continually supported the program and this also gives a small incentive to hit this small milestone. You could even double it for those who have 25 or more consecutive years.

An across the board increase may be necessary in the future but I think this is a year that Mr. Barta should be saying "Thank you" and rewarding the loyal Hawkeye season ticket holders.

Can anyone tell me how the donations work.
Do you donate first and then hope you can get season tickets or do you get the tickets assigned and then donate?
If I donate, but can't get tickets.... is the donation refundable? Or am I basically gambling with my money?

What a windfall for the Iowa Athletic Department. Even the most conservative of estimates put 45 to 50K fans in Pasadena watching the game. That being above the current season ticket holders bodes very well for the future of Iowa football attendance in Kinnick.

Or, the poster could be mistaken.

I wouldn't change the prices at all, you made it too complex.

You can order your tickets based on donation level and then only donate after you are notified. Have to donate by July, iirc, and you will have selected your seats before then.

Demand will be big. When Barta says slight increase, I expect $2 or $4 per game. $20 for the season.

ISU
NW
Wisconsin
Michigan
Nebraska
I would even include NDSU on this list. Their fans are gonna make the trip south, I assume they'll sell their 4000 ticket allotment at the bare minimum.

If you didn't read any 'there is a long list of people waiting to take the tickets you are giving up fair weather fan' 'I have a friend who will add two tickets, you won't be missed' posts in threads than you weren't paying attention.

Overpaid? 2015 season tickets were the greatest bargain I've ever purchased.

That was from 2 or 3 years ago, not last offseason.

As somebody mentioned previously, they don't call it 'Half Price Stadium' for nothing.
I bought an ISU 3pak last year for $99, which included the Iowa game. (didn't use them)
They are so desperate that they are now offering season tickets to me for $125.00.
I've been emailed at least twice with this offer.
That's $17.85 per game ! You can't compare paid attendance with that much price disparity.
And then they like to howl about Iowa's $10 concession vouchers. Morons.
Or mock Iowa offering $175 season tickets to full-time Kirkwood students.
They got so many jucos coming and going, it's impossible to keep track.
#astormisbrewing hahaha burp fart

Well, I was happy that I purchased my season tickets for the 31st consecutive season but yes, I did feel I overpaid since I could have easily picked up tix for a fraction of the cost (tickets plus donation plus seats backs) in front of Kinnick each game. Several games had folks accepting as little as $10 per ticket. I'm a loyal fan but I don't expect to pay more this next year after being one of those who sucked it up and paid top dollar for a very unattractive schedule.
