Man...it’s like watching a play. Seriously. It’s also very noticeable that they tried to make George exactly like Larry David. His hair is all standing up like his was in the 80s and early 90s. A lot less studio laughing but that’s because they aren’t sure what they’re watching yet. It was always good.

And Chandler and Nick Offerman suck!

George seemed different in Season 1. He was more confident and resourceful, at least compared to the angsty manchild he became in later seasons.

Kramer was a better character in the early seasons before he became this over-the-top maniac who felt like every episode he had to top the previous week. He was very laid-back and sort of similar to Jim Ignatowski.

“It’s been a week. It’s up to the cat now.”

I noticed the same thing with the Friends cast...they played way too much into their character's oddities as the show went on.

The episode Larry and Jerry point to as the most impactful on the future of the show was the “Junior Mint”. That was the most “out there” premise to that point and after it they realized that they can do whatever the hell they want and be a crazy as needed because they got away with it.

Seems to happen with all long running sitcoms. If you watch season 1 of Cheers Norm and Cliff are equally dorky and Cliff comes off more as just a typical working class guy with a know-it-all big mouth. He's an extreme Asperger's syndrome weirdo by the end of the series. Butt of every joke.

Both characters are much different then they started out by the end of the show. You wonder what Norm and Cliff ever had in common to become "best friends".

See also what they did to Rebecca.

Agreed.

Related note - Great story about how John Ratzenberger got the role of Cliff. :)

Just listened to the Larry David/Howard Stern interview while traveling. Good interview.

I recently went through and watched all the best Frank Constanza episodes and re-started Curb Your Enthusiasm. Both such good shows

I don’t care for Season 1 all that much. Way too much Jerry and the standup bits are not funny.

I think it got better as time passed.
