Seems like there is momentum building among college coaches calling for a mulligan on senior players who were denied the chance to compete in conference tournaments or the NCAA.

I support this.

And I also know Ryan Kriener on the 2020-21 Hawks would be sooooooo dope.

He’s exactly what next year’s team would be missing (assuming Garza returns like he will).

so let’s start the hype train. Hawks are AP Top 10 to start whatever next season is if and when it happens.

How does that work for scholarships with Freshmen coming in? Some teams just get more scholarship players?

This is a good idea, but it's difficult to see how it could work. Many of these kids will have graduated. Some kids would opt for the extra year. Others would choose to move on with their lives, which could really make for unfair advantages for some teams. The theory is good; I just don't see how it's practical.

This. There is absolutely no way they could do this. So what, Iowa would have 16 or 17 guys on scholorship if Kreiner and BE came back? As much as this sucks for these guys, and it does, I doubt most of them wouldn't really want to come back for another entire year of work, just to play in the tournament. For the guys who aren't going pro, they'll move on with their lives. Sometimes things don't go the way you'd hoped, and you just have to move on, something we've all been through in our lives for one reason or another. You don't get to upset the whole apple cart, (or in this case all of NCAA basketball), because you don't like the hand you were dealt. Life doesn't work like that.

It’s sucks for their season/college career to end like this but this should be their last year. They’ve played 30 some games. I don’t see basketball or wrestling getting another year but I could see spring sports like baseball maybe getting another year.

It sucks for everybody, not just the seniors. However, if this is the worst thing that ever happens to them in life, they will be lucky! Disappointment is a part of life. They will have to learn to deal with them.

That said, I would not be opposed to giving the seniors another year if they want it. There was some talk of postponing the tournaments until May. Maybe that would be a better option.

I think what we're gonna be looking at, as I've made the rounds on the interwebz, is the unfortunate possibility of winter sports being f***ed, but spring/summer sports athletes being granted an extra year because they barely got started.

That WAS the better option.

There should have been zero pressure from anyone to outright cancel everything RIGHT NOW ON THIS VERY DAY AND NOT A MOMENT LATER.....

But once the universities started shutting down and backing their kids out, the NCAA tucked tail and figured this was the best way to avoid any potential scrutiny as far as exposure goes. And they would deal with the potential losses of revenue/eligibility/etc once everything else has died down..........

Why are they only giving seniors an extra year? Everyone is missing out this year regardless of grade. If they are going to do it, everyone should be eligible for an extra year if they want it.

I would like to see Fran use an 18 man rotation next year.

This. What was the rush to cancel TODAY?

I would only think this should even be considered for teams in the top 64 or conference champs. The rest would not have had a postseason anyway.
And, this proposal would almost assure that those outside the 2020 top 64 would not achieve that elevated status in 2021 either. What a dumbass idea.

I would be against any winter sports participants getting an entire year back. Many teams had already finished their season or had essentially no chance of making the NCAA tournament. It's too bad, but they did have a nearly complete season to play and develop.

Spring sports participants, on the other hand, are really getting a bad deal.

My vote is for a Tournament later on, no fans just radio or tv, fvcking BTN+ if they have to.

Bring back baseball later on, no crowds. Kids get sick, they stay home or the team forfeits a couple games. Have the CWS.

Par of me thinks any momentum teams had will be lost, some ready to move on, some not. May be best just to cancel.

Heck I could go either way at this point.

I don't see the NCAA granting another year … Doing so would cause a cascading of issues … Now, if the entire Big 10 season was not played, I'd understand the granting of another year … I do feel bad for the players and coaches and families … These kids work hard …

PLEASE give Nixon and Jacobson the chance to play another year at ISU. I am all for that.

Wonder what incoming recruits think of this notion. Just seems like a horrible idea to me. I agree that it sucks for the seniors on the 64 (or 96 if you include the NIT) teams that were going to play in the NCAA's, but it won't, unfortunately, be the last disappointment in their lives.
I wasn't an advocate for cancelling the tourny. I thought limiting the crowds to family, support staff, etc would be a good compromise, but that decision was made way above our pay grades and, it sucks, but we all have to live with it.

As I said, I feel for the kids but NO ONE should get an extra year of eligibility over this. Lets be honest the conference tournaments are not relevant for the most part, so what these self serving coaches are asking is to grant an extra year for seniors who, (over half of all teams in the field) will only be missing out on ONE tournament game. What do you tell your freshman recruit who made his decision based on next years roster and then he ends up sitting because Joe senior comes back for an entire season because he missed ONE game. Totally unmanageable ridiculous idea......

For spring sports, yes. Winter... their season ended unfairly, but they did have a season

I think colleges shutting down also impacted things. I’m hearing stories of schools sending kids home - it’s crazy.

I don't remember what school (maybe Harvard) they told students they had to move out. I think it's absolutely a move to cover their own a$$es. Get all the students out of there, then they don't have to deal with anything related to students being sick.

Which really seems the opposite of what you should do, if you want to slow the spread. Wouldn't it be better to STAY WHERE YOU ARE. Instead of sending everyone home, where they could be transmitting the virus as they travel....

Just cost Spencer Lee the opportunity to be a 4 time champion.

However NCAA keeps track of this, if Lee wins next year he should make the list with some sort of asterisks and explanation. Same for anyone who wins 3 and 2020 could have been their 4th

And it sucks for Lugo who had a great chance for his only championship.
