If I have the numbers right, with today’s victory, Iowa now has an all-time winning record in basketball against 2 of the traditional Big Ten opponents, OSU and Northwestern (though the record against Wisconsin is very close). Iowa’s record against OSU strikes me as a significant overperformance, Iowa’s only series overperformance versus traditional Big Ten opponents. No explanation for this overperformance comes to mind, but it is interesting. (Conversely, Iowa’s sub .500 all-time record versus the Gophers is a significant underperformance.)
Iowa is also now 8-11 all time in Value City Arena, where Dr. Tom became the first visiting coach to win in 1999. This is also a significant overperformance. Perhaps Dean Oliver and Kent McCausland cast a spell in 1999 that helps to this day.
