Settle Down Jok or Sit Down

Offensively I don't think Fran is a great offensive mind. That will not help Jok at all since he is a guy that is better when he isn't handling the ball. Unfortunately if you don't have a lot of sets that create open looks he is going to get stuck with the ball in his hands more often trying to create shots.

Defensively I don't think there is really much improvement you're going to see from him at this point. If it was going to happen it would have already by this time in his career. It's a really big void when he is letting guys dribble right past him into the lane. Part of being a team though is knowing the strengths and weaknesses of everyone on the team and working around them.

not saying your are wrong but in watching the replay I just don't see the premise that he just lets guys dribble past him...in fact other than Colson (who was not Jok's man)...most of the damage was done elsewhere.

in fact (as was pointed out by another poster) Jok was on the bench when ND made some their run in the 2nd half..
in fact Jok was in the game when Iowa held ND scoreless the last few minutes of the 1st half...
it is correct to say Beachem got away from us....not just Jok fault

at 10 min mark we are down 6...56-62
Beachem hits a wide open 3 in the corner (baer & ellingson got lost in the zone)..ND up 9
Colson fouled by Jok on our offensive board..makes 2 ft..ND up 11
Beachem hits a 3 (guarded by Jok)..ND back up 10
Beachem hits a 2 (guarded by Baer)..ND up 12
Colson put back..ND up 14..

TO Iowa little over 5 min,,

ND buckets last 5 min'..only 2..
Farrell 3 (guarded by JB)
Farrell to Colson (pemsl schooled pick roll) ND up 16
ton of Iowa fouls trying to get back in it & clock stoppage.

Jok took 2 3's last 5 min after hitting his last one with 5:37 to go to cut lead to 11.
JB took 2 3's last 5 min...long range hit them both

We had Uthoff last year to bail guys out by blocking / altering shots. This year we get it rammed down our throats and if the first attempt is missed, we give up 1-2 additional chances. Notre Dame had someone inside Jok's jersey all night and took him out of the game. We don't have guys capable of doing that, so we have to play off to guard against dribble drive, which leads to wide open looks.

Colson getting a career highs in points and rebounds is pretty telling about our lack of inside physicality. Should have tried to get that dude in foul trouble by pounding it to Pemsl, but instead Jok tried to put it all on his shoulders.

as did Bohannon...took 18 shots..Jok 20. And yes Jok has successful put the offense on his shoulders in previous games...agree he needs to do a better job of finding his teammates. He did drive twice in the last 5 min drawing a foul both times...I'll take a 90% guy on the line.

It's pretty difficult to be critical of Jok or Bohannon for being willing to take shots on a team of guys who want to defer. Williams has 0 confidence. Baer is struggling. Uhl does not look at the basket. We got very lucky that Pemsl stepped up or last night could have been a repeat of UVA.

The problem with Jok last night is that it took him 12 misses before he went to Plan B. He has to be a leader and find a way to set guys up. If he does this a couple of times and others knock down shots, suddenly they have to guard more than one guy. Notre Dame spread the floor with good shooters and they made us pay for not being in their faces. We have guys who stare down open looks and kick it back out or dribble in space without putting pressure on the defense. Defenders play off, help on Jok, sluff in the paint and rebound.

And these are things he needs to learn this year with his role. Fran can coach him on these things without sitting him on the bench. Sitting Jok on the bench is pretty much guaranting this team a loss. By the way ND went on their run in the second half with Jok on the bench. He just had a poor shooting night last night. I saw him take 3 forced shots last night. Pretty good for a guy that was 2nd in the nation in scoring coming into the game and a guy that's on a struggling team.

There was allot more than 3 forced shots.

Taking him out for the end of the game would have hardly guaranteed a loss.

He was also the one "gaurding" Beachum. That guy getting constant easy shots was as big of a factor as anything.

Shooters can shoot you into games and they can shoot you out of games.

But there wasn't a need to be shot into the game is the problem.

There was no reason the offense should not have gone through Pemsel untill ND adjusted.

They just stoped giving him the ball.

Did you watch that game last night?

If you're not going to atleast sit a guy for a while when hes taking shots like that then youre going to do more damage than good.
Those are pretty much the same shots he usually makes and he is a shooter and you want to shoot her to keep shooting and sometimes I live off night I watch Steph Curry against the LA Lakers go 0for ten 10 and three pointers and two games later he set the NBA record for making 13 in the game if Jack was completely a well-rounded player he wouldn't be here this year and would be bitching and moaning and about How we wished he would have came back he does a very good job a rebound and he's a great shooter and for God sakes he scored 42 points the other night when is the last time a hawk I did that you guys need to give it a rest
This kid has to learn to let the game come to him... He does not have any court sense whatsoever and if he doesn't step up to be a leader than I would rather he just sit on the bench.

1) He is not a defensive player at all he is just plain lazy on the defensive end and is a huge liability.

2) He forces way to many shots instead of moving without the ball and creating space.. He needs to take a cue from Mecham for Notre Dame let the game come to you be patient and create your shot.

3) He has to learn to create off the dribble which he just cannot do, when he has the ball he creates zero opportunities for his teammates .
yeah take your 42 points and sit on we don't need him stupid post of the year

at least 2 of Beachem's 3's were on poor transition defense including one on Ellingson when Iowa was transitioning back into zone. He got lost underneath the basket on the left side of the lane and Beachem was left open on the right side for an open 3.

Also, for those blaming Jok's defense for the loss. They had 4 guys put up 16 or more points. Not going to win very often when 4 opposing players score 16 or more. It is hardly all on his shoulders.

Yep was a critical play in the game at that point...but it wasn't Jok so apparently it didn't stand out in some people's brain.

Jok was a huge offensive liability in the second half of the ND game. He was pressing trying to get his shots. Jok needs to learn that his game is going to centered around him running off of screens. He has very littler hops and almost no quickness off of the bounce. The inside/outside game Bohannon and Pemsl were the guys Iowa needed to ride to stay in the game. I thought Fran left Pemsl on the bench far to long when he picked up the 3rd foul. Pemsl was having his way with Bonzie down on the low block.

Things Jok needs to do.

Keep the ball moving, move without the ball, much better effort on D.

If he does those things the rest will fall into place.
