Sherman Dillard tweet

Tell me ONE thing he has done that has caused an issue for Iowa.

This one time during a game it was very exciting and one of our players made a monster play. (Probably a TC dunk) and Sherm jumped up and down and Fran had to tell him to sit down so we didn't get the technical foul called on us. (other coaches were reacting too) Luckily Sherm immediately sat back down. Whew.....close one. He better not do that again! Oh and thanks for bringing us guys like A-aron White, Moss and TC.

No, we are not getting all of those players. Getting a foot in the door is the beginning. But Iowa has been close and they have got a few commitments from it (TC comes to mind) so it has helped.

Look, some of you seem to have a hard on for Sherman but I don't think you really have a leg to stand on. Tell me ONE thing he has done that has caused an issue for Iowa. I have pointed out the obvious good he has done, so please come back with something solid or don't come back at all.
I really don't have a thing against SD or any of the current assistants, as I have already stated. Bunch of good guys no doubt. My point from earlier in this thread, is the current makeup of this coaching staff, simply doesn't seem to be making any significant gains after nearly a decade of collecting a nice salary at Iowa. This is no different then what we've been through with KF a couple of times, and I support him as well. You have to shake things up now and then or the message, and the product gets stale. This program is stale. its that simple. After last years debacle, I consider this year merely more of a return to the norm. Unfortunately, the norm includes falling off badly toward the end of the season. Barring a sweet sixteen run this year, its time for Fran to show that he see's the need to move away from the status quo.

I don't have the time to go research every P5 team, but the Iowa staff being the exact same for 9 years has to be unique in all of college hoops. Most head coaches don't last that long at one spot, and certainly their staffs change over much more frequently. Stability is good, but so is being known as a place where really good assistants want to go to further their career. Dillard and Speraw are obviously at a stage in their careers where they aren't real candidates for head jobs.

KF has actually had quite a bit of change in his staff. Off the top of my head, guys who moved on from Iowa to other colleges and pro football, or "retired" and/or were asked to move on:

Joe Philbin
Ron Aiken
Wilson (linebackers?)
O'Keefe (since returned)
Erik Campbell
Rick Kaczenski
Bielema
Chuck Long
Eric Johnson (took over Culvers)
Lester Erb
Chris White
Bobby Kennedy

You want your program to be a place where people can come and be put in a position to get a better job. Some turnover of a staff over time is natural.

I totally agree, Dodger, that was my point, but you obviously embellished on it much better then I. It's not only natural as you said, but necessary for the good of the program. Our program is starting to look like me and my buddies are coaching our kids AAU team, kind of thing. Again the main thing is, this is a results driven business. If Fran wins, and makes some runs at the conference, and a tourney run past the first weekend every few years, then he can sign Margaret to coach or play for all I care. If not then he should be accountable to at least show he's TRYING to do something different.....

For all the so called experience that Iowa is supposed to have in their coaching staff, they, as a whole should be doing a lot better then they are.
Experience is overrated if you look at the average age of each Big Ten teams assistants.
Lets dive into to it shall we: first, youngest average staff by age assistants only.
1. Wisconsin 37, 2. Ohio St. 41, 3. Michigan 41, 4. Illinois 43, 5. Penn St. 43, 6. Nebraska 45, 7. Rutgers 46, 8. Purdue 46, 9. Minnesota 47, 10. Northwestern 47, 11. Maryland 48, 12. Michigan St. 49, 13. Indiana 50, and last but not least 14. Iowa 57.
It doesn't matter how nice you are, it's the product on the court that matters and not stepping up and contributing to better the team on the defensive end or improvement in rebounding, it's killing Iowa and has for the last 9 years.
I really don't expect change because of Fran's stubbornness, but I can still bitch at the deficiencies that continue to plague this Iowa program. Change is needed, and if the players on the court can't be upgraded then you have to look at the staff to improve the product.

If anything your post proves that average age makes no impact. The quality of teams is spread out over that list.

No matter what, people will hate. Granted I dont know enough about him to justify to bash or compliment him either way.

His job is to coach/recruit and not to care about some dude (Hawk fan or otherwise) that is probably sending him measages giving him crap.

He is on Twitter because that's a communication tool with recruits. Not uncommon at all.

At the risk of coming across as Captain Obvious, this is a toxic world we live in today. Not sure why the rush to rain on someone else’s parade. Remember this... Someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business. “Keep your head to the sky” (EWF)

This list is worthless without Greg Davis. Please revise.
