Do they have anyone who can match up against Garza? I would be very tempted to run the shot clock down to about 10 each possession and then get the ball to him or Weezy.

Yes. They should. They should emphasize limiting turnovers and getting back on defense to prevent transition baskets. Iowa is much better than Nebraska, so as long as we don't give up easy buckets in transition, we should easily out-shoot them.

Combine that with the fact that we're missing so many key players, this strategy will help limit the strain on guys being forced to go the full 40.

Edit: I'd also note that Nebraska is a terrible FT shooting team. If we can get a few minutes out of Till and any other non-scholarship player, they can play without worrying about fouling (it also allows for more rest for anyone on the bench without missing game time).

This strategy is exactly what Fran should employ. Genius, keep our starters from wearing out and limit Nebraska's positions....make it happen Franny.....

Actually if you look at the metrics, Hoiball is running a much higher AdjT than Iowa is right now so that already seems to be part of the plan.

I am guessing we don't press a whole lot.

This.

Pushing the ball up on offense takes very little effort. It just creates quicker shots and more possessions which is a good thing when you are a very efficient offensive team.

Pressing on defense is what expends the energy.

The more possessions there are in the game the better for Iowa because Iowa is likely going to score on a higher percentage of their possesions compared to Nebraska.

We’re still going to push the ball. It’s our identity. Like rock and roll said, we’re very efficient playing the way we play. And the way Fran has played since he’s been here for 10 years. It’s our identity.

No. They are not built that way. You start to eliminate some of our strengths. The key is rotations which won’t put offensive deficient combinations on the court. 3 scorers on the court at all times. Evelyn, Pemsl and Till need to score 12-16 points between the 3 of them and play good defense.

4 corners!

And if Cordell can make better decisions as far as passing the ball.
Cordell had one great game in his Iowa Career. And it couldn't have been against a better team. But we are in pretty bad shape when we have to play him. Somehow I hope he can pick up his game....

It depends on what kind of a defensive team Nebbie is. If they are tough in the half court defense, then we want to run and beat them in transition. If they aren't a good defense, then slow it down, work the clock and pound it into Luka. Go Hawks!

That simply isn't true. CP had a pretty solid freshman year. Then the injuries flared back up, and he's struggled being able to get his body right. I'd take him the way he played as a frosh right now, no question....

Some teams have painful memories of this.
I remember it filtering down to the high school level. One of my boys was playing against Liberty High when they were the #1 ranked team in Missouri large class. Our coach knew that we didn't have the horses to keep up with them, so he went into the 4 corners right out of the opening jump. Kept him in the game for awhile, it was 8-6 at the half. Most painful game to watch I've ever been too. We ended up losing like 44-28 or something, but it was excruciating to sit through.
