Judging from what the folks on VolleyTalk say, Barta may have made an impact hire, though the supposed insiders had claimed Shymansky already turned down the job this time (as well as last time when Dingman was hired). A few also said Iowa would never hire a male coach for a womens program. Cause for hope...

Did people really say that? How did these people explain the men that are currently head coaches in women's sports at Iowa?

people did say that, because of past experiences, it was true. Not going to go into the long history of it, but appears there has been a shift.
Overall on hiring Bond, a HUGE HUGE get!!
Great upside, some many positive things.
Yes, he did turn it down last time, and wonder what it was that made him change his mind, but this is a phenomenal hire for Iowa vball!

Certainly a big surprise hire based ont he information I had access to. Super excited. This is a great hire.

Is the Gary Barta formula to swing and miss on the fire hiring attempt, and land a good one on the second hiring? Seems like it so far!

a lawsuit against Iowa for passing over male coaches will hopefully stop the disgraceful practice

This is what I'm talking about. What "disgraceful practice"? We already had several men as head women's coaches BEFORE hiring Bond.

um....there was a lawsuit for passing over qualified male coaches in favor of females. what do you not undetstand?

I see Bond has hired his two assistants: Michaela Franklin and Jackie Simpson. Both were with him at Marquette, although I think Michaela was the head coach at UW-Green Bay last year. I remember Simpson playing at Wisconsin on those real good teams in the mid-2000s. Sounds like Bond has alot of confidence in both. Franklin is originally from Lincoln, NB and Simpson from the NW Suburbs of Chicago so I like that fact that they are midwest ladies.

I keep seeing on twitter that he has received commitments from players. Particularly, some iowa kids.

Are these token players or legit program changers?

Someone in the know give a rundown on his progress
