SI article...

I don't know if he just thinks the fan base is stupid or if he just doesn't care, but saying that he's seeing improvement in an underperforming 6th-year QB as a reason to keep playing him is so frickin' asinine he deserves all the "senile" and "Alzheimers" comments coming his way....

C'mon man....he's only started 25 games for two Big Ten programs over five seasons. You have to give him time to learn the position. Another two or three years and he'll only be two or three years away from being semi-competent.

Oh, do tell KF.

What exactly in your expert opinion are you seeing?
These are exact quotes KF has used many times since he's been here:

"I don't know anything about the quarterback position."

"I don't understand quarterbacks."

Which are both as explanatory as they are infuriating considering his insistence on who gets all the snaps the last several years.

It doesn’t help when Lester says he thinks that Cade’s best game of the season was Minnesota and that he was seeing a lot of progress despite the lack of stats. That too is an ignorant statement.
Kirk’s already got Lester bent over and touching his toes, taking the big “Dean of Football” weenie.

Didn’t take long.

My Kirkspiracy theory: Kirk only wants to play Kirkball and win 9 to 3 or 6 to 4 games.

Burnie Burns Conspiracy GIF by Rooster Teeth

If the QB is too good of a performer, the D and the ST units will slack off because they know their QB will just bail them out if they make mistakes or fall behind.

I am now convinced that Kirk likes his QBs to struggle, and this whole thing is some sort of psychological whammy by him against his own team. If the QB is struggling and we all see it, that means the Defense and Special Teams see it too. Therefore those groups know they have to step-up their performance in order to win close games.

Conclusion: Kirkball only works when the QB is mediocre.

Cade has a pedigree that KF LOVES!! (ex mich qb, won at mich, says all the right things, confident but not cocky, good looking young man, teammates get along with him, probably listens to country music, maybe even has a steady gal, has promised kf a wedding invitation.

Cade ain’t going nowhere unless injuries happen.

I actually thought Cade played well in the game. First half stats pretty good. Then the 2 fumbles and game over. Don't recall if the fumbles were caused by the Oline being a sieve or not, but a lot of pressure in the backfield. How many times did a Dline guy almost get to the RB BEFORE the handoff???
This. I'm sure Day said to the team at halftime he was unhappy with Defensive play and instructed them to stack the box and blitz. After that it was all over for Iowa's offence. 11 on 10 does not fare well for Iowa's offence in that scenario.

Yeah, that's pretty amazing for a man who has spent a lifetime in football when we are talking about the most important position in the sport. He's just lost without Ken O'Keefe

I think he's just kissing the ring here. I actually think he is a competent offensive and QB mind. We all were wondering exactly how much autonomy he would be given - now we know. I don't think there is any way on God's green earth that TL thinks CM gives this team the best chance to win.

All we can do is hope he does well because he’s not coming out. There are no arguments, rational or irrational, that will ever change that reality. I know, I’ve made them. So, go kick ass Cade.

Cade can't kick anything. His injured body is too creaky. If Cade were such a great leader as captain, maybe he should do the right thing and step aside. Let a young, healthy QB see what he can do. OTOH, it's KF's job to make decisions. His first one should have been to hire an OC and get the hell outta the way and let that OC rule EVERY aspect of the offense . . . especially the vital decision of who should start at QB. But no, the senile, stubborn old micromanager just . . . can't . . . do it. He HAS to have the final word, even if he has proven over and over and over and over and over and over and over some more that he has no clue about offense in general or QBs in particular.

But we've been saying this for a decade. The only good thing is that KF ain't immortal, despite what his proponents seem to believe. Some day, through natural causes, resignation, or firing, there will be a new head football coach at Iowa. I just hope it happens in my lifetime.

Just curious if SI will print a similar article on every other QB that OSU makes look bad or worse then they really are this year?

Face it, we’re stuck fellas.
No one is stuck. There are 130+ teams out there. Choose one or two, buy some gear and get other coaches to complain about.

Its simple really.
I don't think that's what he meant. At least not as I interpreted it. I read his post that we're "stuck" with Cade as the QB, not being "stuck" as a Hawkeye fan. I think he's right. Whether that it a good thing or a bad thing is a hot topic right now. Except for a handful of obvious trolls, people who post on this site are loyal Hawkeye fans. We take the time to read articles, watch videos, write posts on this site. There is no uniformity of opinion, except that we want the Hawks to be successful. How the Hawks get there is subject to debate, discussion, disagreement, dispute, and discourse. That should not be discouraged. One note - calling someone who doesn't agree with you an idiot is not a very persuasive argument.

After firing Brian and wrecking the plan for him to slip into the HC job after Kirk, you knew Kirk wasn’t going to hire and innovating young coach and give him the reigns. That would make the AD look great for firing his son.

You think Kirk has ever given an OC the reigns? You think Brian had the reigns? Really?

i for sure knew this was an adjustment that they would make. we should've been better prepared (play calling wise and qb wise).

I think he recruited him to play at Western Michigan. He obviously likes him. My guess is he fought for him to run the goal line offense. I doubt that came from Kirk. So that's one chunk out of the impenetrable Kirk wall.

Well. if you listen KF said Cade is getting the ball out on time. If you have watched us play, along with the fact one of our best wr's was in HS last year (so he is still learning how to get open) you would understand that we were working on the quick hitter or short passing game first. Actually the run game came first, but now we are talking about the passing game. Maybe some of that has to do with it being a high percentage play and thus ball security and some of it has to do with the fact that unless it is blown coverage or you have a first round draft pick wr, most wr's are going to be covered the further down field they go. The window gets tighter and you have more of a chance of being picked. I have said it before when people were all flapping their lips about Cade's arm strength, as long as a QB can be accurate when throwing out to 30 yards that is all you really need. Because being a ball security program, only in desperation will we ever throw further then that. You want to be able to throw the ball out to the depth where the safeties are playing and that is about it. That is where we are at, getting better at hitting behind the LB's but inside of the safeties. The rest is going pretty smoothly. Now somehow some fans think they know what QB is better at that or that Lester does not have a say in what QB is better at that and it is laughable. When you have an offensive mind, you understand that we have 11 pretty good guys and they have 11 pretty good guys, but every team has some positions that are less experienced, a little slower, a little smaller or whatever it is that you can try and exploit. Then you have to have the plays and be good enough at them to do it. I mean if simply running past everyone and throwing bombs over the top of the entire defense was the way to win the most amount of football games, everyone would be doing that or trying to do that. 99% of the game happens between where the RB is lined up (when he is deep) or QB is lined up and where the safeties are lined up. Between those yardage lines is where the game is almost always won.

Or TL is a KF puppet and has to say certain things as to not contradict the qb guru that is KF.

We lost to ISU and OSU by their WRs getting behind our experienced D, and the QBs putting the ball on the money.

You took that much time and effort to come out defending this garbage offense and the garbage play by CM? That's impressive.

The bootlickers have never ever engaged in a debate on anything. It's all ad hominem. The reason for that?
Well there was a popular phrase that came into the lexicon in the last few years: "Your rights end where my feelings begin"
The reasoning of an entitled child.

Cade is still the starter because replacing him would confirm KF made a mistake.
Iowa can limp to a 8-4 record, some shit bowl game and the real reason KF is still here... pass Woody Hayes by early next season.

I think KF retires after next season.
