Scammers gonna scam... I have gotten a few text messages saying I owe for tolls... The latest one was from New York, a place I haven't been to since Fleet Week back in the early 2000's.

Sadly there must be people falling for this crap.

It’s Trump new Gay Toll Tax. Since you were at Fleet Week, it assumes you need to pay the tax.

If you travel at all they are a bitch because you don't know if you missed something. I got a notice I owed for parking in Seattle and almost didn't take it seriously.
The last time I paid a toll, it was in Orlando, to get in or out of their airport, YOU MUST pay the toll, there's no free option. It's not a cheap toll either at the time it was I think 1.50 each way.

I get those texts and a lot of emails telling me that my icloud services will be disrupted unless I respond with some kind of payment. No matter how many times I report as spam/junk it keeps coming.

If you are getting them you should change your passwords on critical sites
tl;dr I am WAY beyond that. Identity thieves should be shot, more below the line if you care about a CSB.
_____

Virtually every aspect of my identity is already in the hands of identity thieves. I was the victim of attempted identity theft 2 years ago. In a nutshell I used to be a CEO of a decently well known company and my name etc was occasionally in the news, as I have since learned that makes you a target of these folks. After leaving that role I got alerted by Amex that a credit check had been performed in my name. Turns out these asshats tried to get a loan at a bank in my name. They had my social, all the former addresses, phone number, they obviously knew my job. They apparently knew other details the credit bureaus use like what cars I owned, etc. Luckily I was able to step in and get the loan shut down. I now pay for Aura that helps protect my identity,

Last week someone tried again. They tried to do a credit check (my credit is blocked but they still tried) at a car dealership and I got alerted by Aura. Called the dealer and they sent me a photo of a drivers license with my name and address but someone else’s face. They even gave me the asshole’s phone number, etc. and that is now all in the hands of the police, I doubt they get the guy. It has occurred to me I could really f*ck with this guy using his phone, but then again he knows who I am and where I live.

Bottom line, if you are worried about identity theft the Aura app works well.
