In case you're living under a rock...the "good" thing is we are supposed to warm up above freezing later in the day and be above freezing Saturday night.

I've got a bus trip early tomorrow - quite surprised it hasn't been cancelled yet. Hell, damn near every school in Iowa probably has some sort of event scheduled tomorrow morning.

Not a fan. But, at least for most of us it will be in the early AM, so with the temps rising there won’t be much impact unless some power lines go down.

About an hour ago the warning just got extended from ending at noon to now ending at 3PM up here in Cedar Falls. I hope that shit ends early. I don't mind snow storms because generally I can still drive wherever I need to in the city if I absolutely must go somewhere. But ice is a different story.

With that said, I bought a nice amount of booze this morning after I left the gym. So we'll be all set tonight and tomorrow.

I had an ice storm warning during happy hour under the tiki bar in central Florida this afternoon. Dingy bartender almost gave me a bourbon on the rocks when I clearly slurred to her that I wanted it neat.

Latest update is .25-.5 inches of ice for areas of Eastern Iowa

They pushed back the onset a few hours, and also how long it'll take to bring the warmer air up north. That's what worries me. This thing slowing down over us. So...more ice accumulation. Ugh...

It was somewhere around winter (December?) 2007 or 2008, we had a heavy ice storm (followed by a wet and heavy 6-8" of snow) with big time wind on a Saturday as I recall. We lost power here in south CR for about 30ish total hours. Thankfully, temps the following day warmed up into the low 40's but the damage had unfortunately been done.

I remember, it was 36 degrees inside my home when the power came back on that Sunday night. Hell, I got lucky - there were parts of eastern Iowa that didn't have power for weeks.

This one coming in seems eerily similar...

Fill the tub now just in case.
As someone on a well preparing for a power outage, I'm doing exactly that now. Pressure tank is good for maybe five toilet flushes without power. Gotta get those turds down somehow. Also some drinking water I guess.

Overstocked on booze, good stack of firewood ready for the wood stove, I say bring it on.

Sounds right. We had the same thing in ankeny around then and remember us and the kids wearing parkas and all sleeping in the same bed for warmth.

Heading to the in-laws X-mas early this morning to beat the system. Son has a BB game at 4, not sure if that will get canceled. I’d take feet of snow over .25” or more of ice.

My son is done with class for the semester and wants to be picked up today. Looks tricky as to when I-80 between DSM and IC will be safe. Maybe by 2?

I remember the one in February 2008. We lost our power for 18 or so hours. We had friends in CVille that lost power for 4 hours while other friends down in Wellman were without power for like 10 days.

North Liberty power grid/providers is weird. We have Alliant, MidAm, and Linn Cty REC in town.

It's not too bad here, at least looking out the windows. Limbs on the trees aren't sagging which is a good indicator of accumulation in town.

JFC. You’re Iowans. A little ice isn’t the end of the world. You know what to do so do it and stop pretending you’re suffering. It’s called “winter” and it happens every year.

You posting while driving on your way to your elocution lessons?

Had a 22KW whole house Generac generator installed this summer. Even if the power doesn't go off, it's a nice, snug feeling having it on a day like today. Being without power for five days after the derecho made me a believer.

Ice can make for bad news. Watch those outside steps.
