SIAPepsi - Been awhile since we've had an ice storm warning 'round these parts

JFC. You’re Iowans. A little ice isn’t the end of the world. You know what to do so do it and stop pretending you’re suffering. It’s called “winter” and it happens every year.

Not one single vehicle has driven on my street and I've been up since 5 - and it's a Saturday. Per Iowa 511 all roads and streets are 100% ice covered.

No, we're not going to have power outages here for we've gotten 0.16 so far...but still. This storm has effectively halted everything travel-wise where I live. Sure, some people are probably out there but my bet is they ain't having ANY fun while doing so.

...and looking at CR traffic cameras around my side of the city - nothing on US30.

Which one is Torbee?
Where is the pic of a strapping young lad from Ioway schussing down the slopes?

Heard someone in my neighborhood with a no-muffler truck about 9:00. I’m sure he’s in a ditch by now. Wind seems to be picking up too. That could be fun.

Mains are slushy/icey while sides are pretty much ice. Not much traffic. City out sanding and salting. Taking it nice and easy but every now and then you see a pickup come flying up on fdaGFIU;VH;V
It is a weird take that pickup drivers act like they are driving sports cars, good weather or bad many drive them like fools.

Talking about the weather, good or bad, is the official state of Iowa pastime. It can't be helped. Also, this wouldn't be so bad except for the wind. It's the wind that'll getcha.

What is the motivation for owning these types of trucks? To scream to the world that "I'm an asshole"? There's at least one in my neighborhood now and the guy will sometimes come screeching by at 11PM or later on a week night, what a jag off.

Otherwise, here in Coralville it looks like there are stupid people out and driving around, I was going to try and take a walk this morning but it's way too icy. And it's still coming down.

By by late afternoon at least it looks like it's gonna get warm enough where it's gonna melt and streets/sidewalks should be passable.

When can I leave my house?

Also, on the truck topic. When I lived in Florida my buddy and I had a theory. Since everyone in Florida is either retired, an only fans content creator or a self employed “contractor”, those who owned trucks were clearly contractors. For every job completed they would raise their trucks by 1/2 an inch. Once they reached max height the salt life and Florida grown stickers would come then the rolling coal kits. The maga stickers are freebies though

Did some work around the house this morning, and am thinking it looks like a good afternoon to hunker down, pop open some beers and watch Army-Navy

We've been fortunate thus far as it is not really windy (yet). Tree out front probably has a 1/4" of ice on the limbs so if it gets to swaying in a breeze may see some limbs come down.

IC or CR? Haven’t seen any melting yet in CR

Pinseekers nets are damaged/down
Yikes but would have liked to see them come down. Branches/limbs on our tree are really sagging, top is swaying, and lots of debris starting to come down. It's a soft maple and loses stuff all the time.

In case you're living under a rock...the "good" thing is we are supposed to warm up above freezing later in the day and be above freezing Saturday night.

I've got a bus trip early tomorrow - quite surprised it hasn't been cancelled yet. Hell, damn near every school in Iowa probably has some sort of event scheduled tomorrow morning.

Brother in CR just said he lost power.
Just sayin.

Temps are highest they’ve been and it’s the worst it’s been. People in my neighborhood gave up driving in. Parked the cars and shuffled the rest of the way. Why bother going anywhere?!

Not surprising.

The CR metro has gotten a lot of ice, the most that the QC zone has received via official reporting so far. VERY lucky winds aren't bad.

6/10ths (!) at the airport and that was 1pm. I laughed when I saw that now their reporting has stopped (maybe coated with ice?)...go figure.

My LaCrosse thermometer is saying a shade over 33 at this moment. I'm getting just a smidge of melting on windows, but my street is still sloppy with ice. I haven't hit double figures with vehicles passing by all day so far.

My brother worked today, got off work at 2, north side by Collins. He said the main roads were passable, but once you leave those it's like driving on a skating rink.

Just walked outside for a bit and it's still "not great Bob" in the Iowa City area. Freezing drizzle and the sidewalks are still icy as heck.

I made the drive yesterday from DSM to IC and back, from about 1 to 4:40. Streets were good enough, interstate was fine. Only a couple of cars in the ditch and those looked like they were earlier in the day. Overall not that big of an event in terms of driving if you stuck to treated surfaces.

Just went outside for the first time. Wow.

My thinking is we in CR better get a serious melt today or schools will be cancelled. Yes, one can get out and about, but until side streets and rural adjacents are clear, ain't no way they're sending kids and school buses out in this skating rink.

My vehicles and driveway etc are coated with pretty thick ice, as bad as I've ever seen it. I was able to get in them, get the windows scraped - but again, the ice ain't melting. Sure my house windows have cleared, but then again my house is 72 degrees.

It's still barely above freezing outside. Forecast is for the fog and low cloud cover to stick around, and not get above about 35-36 degrees. Gonna be difficult to get a significant melt in those conditions.

BTW, the CR airport is reporting 0.68" of ice for all of day...

Dang. I wasn’t trying to minimize where you are it is just where I was was not that bad…

On my drive to work, main roads and 380 were fine but side roads are are a sheet of ice. They are worse this morning than they were last night

CR got hammered. You have to get to exit 10ish on 380 for the change. Hopefully temps warm up enough today
