Siebrecht rocks in Iowa debut

Nice to see him get a start and take full advantage of it. He wrestled fearlessly and aggressively. He's likely fourth in the room at the weight, but I like his confidence and style.
I thought he finished ahead of Turk and the Hawk who beat Turk last week?

I like that he's a bit taller. A poor man's slimmer version of Derek St. John as far as build. He showed out in his chance on the big stage, first period tech is pretty good. Not expecting him to win the spot, but it was sure fun for one day.

Well he teched a D-3 finalist and beat another one, ran roughshod over the kid from Princeton...all things you would expect a starter to do. Now, I am not saying he is a starter but he is on the radar now...Brands doesn't "give" dudes starts just because...especially when there is at least one other guy they can trot out there in Turk. Out of the three backups to Murin, he is the one that scores the most points and is the most aggressive. However, Reyna looks like he would be very difficult to wrestle.

Siebrecht has looked great , these wins will elevate him to another level in my mind. In the matches that I have seen him wrestle prior to this season, his confidence is entirely different, his strength/leverage seems much better and is it me or does he seem lighting fast.
I think this trend will continue, as Chief said I want to see him against a ranked guy.
‘Murin is our guy this season at 149, Siebrecht could easily be number 2 in a few months.

I’m not so sure about that…. Cobe is going to make things very, very interesting at ‘49.
This is 100% right. He wrestles a completely different style than mad Max. He’ll take chances and be a fan favorite. I think he’s already above Turk and he’s gunning for the starting spot. He’s been coming on stronger and gaining momentum for awhile now. I would not be surprised if this is one of those midland deals. With two guys competing like this both should get better.

Coming into college he was needing to get stronger, once that is in order he could be really tough with his length at 149.

I say this with all due respect to you and Gobblin but I think we are getting ahead of ourselves when it comes to his performance and a starring role.

I say this with all respect, but when it comes to our weakest weight, I'm not sure it's possible to get ahead of ourselves. If Cobe is flashing something TNT like, and let's be real, Max has yet to show he can punch through his own ceiling.

I like Max, and I like how consistent he is, but I also don't like how consistent everyone else is when they face him. He rarely separates or goes big, and it's clear that Cobe doesn't have those issues. At least not yet.

Yes it's D3 talent he smoked, but the way he did it is what's impressive. If you think Max would've teched that kid in the 1st then... Idk what to tell ya

I’m not saying he’ll win the starting spot but I think he’s pushing a little harder than most thought he would at this point. I’ve been high on him for around a year now after watching him at U23’s (might have been juniors). He’s fun to watch and if he works on his defensive base his offensive aresonal might have a higher ceiling than Max has shown.

A little competition never hurt anyone, and I think he’s competing. Im happy to see it.

How they both stack up against bad wrestlers isn't nearly as important as how they both stack up against good wrestlers. Siebrecht might have a style that leads him to tech a bunch of bad guys that Murin would major, but Murin also has wins over two guys ranked in the top 5 at 149 right now and has been "right there" with a lot of tough opponents. If Siebrecht proves the better, then that is a good thing for Iowa's future.

I’m not campaigning for anyone and will happily root for whomever our starter ends up being. But Siebrecht hasn’t beaten anyone just yet. Murin has done his own beating up on D3 including pinning a defending D3 champ. Maybe Murin sticks the Princeton kid. Neither of us know.

^^^This. His gains have been incredible.

that time of year when fans don’t understand level of competition. murin is a legit aa threat. siebrecht needed a come from behind effort to beat a d3 kid a week ago. only way he’s the starter is if murin can’t get healthy and if that’s the case we’re in trouble at 149.

siebrecht is a couple years away from being that kind of guy, but love his style.

He wrestled Rumph, a finalists in Div 3 who blasted his first 2 opponents, and beat Teasdale a couple years ago. No slouch. I think Midlands will be the true test.

I’m pretty novice when it comes to wrestling but I really enjoy the sport. That said, for the experts on here, is there a former Hawk that has ever won maybe 1 natty that he looks comparable to entering his first year?

Pretty much every year there are kids wrestling D3 that could make the podium wrestling D1. Usually only 1 or 2 between all weights but is this guy one of them? Probably not but not all D3 finalists are equal.

Several from the 80s and 90s. Matt McDonough maybe is a guy who probably wasn't projected to win multiple titles, and his body type for 125 might be comparable to Siebrecht at 149.

Gotta love knowing there are guys that are pushing our 1s and battle testing themselves to be ready if something unfortunate happens. Max been sick... Cobe took full advantage. Thats being a great teammate and making the most of his opportunity. Love this great problem to have. It also is a sign of a strong team. Makes the future look great even if Cobe is never a starter.

the guy he actually reminds me of is andonian from virginia tech. similar body type and style. they move very similarly. not nearly as good though at this point. i’d like to see him against a good d1 guy.

i’m very familiar with rumph. he’s an indiana guy. i watched him in high school. siebrecht was getting worked early in that match. that’s not indicative of a guy who can score points at ncaas right now. max is 2x r12 and lost two ot matches last year. he’s proven he’s right there. i need to see siebrecht beat legit top 20 d1 guys before i even consider him a realistic option at 149 this year. his competition level so far means we don’t know anything about him yet.

you must really be insecure to do the i told you so, on one of your own guys. that's right you are not hawkeye
you misspelled “i had no idea what i was talking about”

guys like murin, young, and warner are criminally under appreciated on this board. those like yourself in a rush to replace them have no understanding of how good they are. siebrecht is a ways away from that level.

welcome back to reality guys.

beating d2 kids does not an all american make, no matter how cool the moves were.
Who are you talking to? Nobody made such a claim. The only chatter I saw and engaged in is that word is that Siebrecht has improved and may have something to say about who the starter will be. The Army guy just got done beating Degan from ISU. Why are you dissing on an Iowa wrestler? We don't know yet how good Siebrecht may become even though you have ridiculed him and written him off.

I don’t see anyone ridiculing Siebrecht.

Degen is a fringe AA when on top of his game. Which he’s not. Lost a close decision to Army guy last night. Murin is our guy here with a good mix of guys pushing him including Siebrecht.
