In Biles defense she did take 2 years off before coming back and winning the USA all around title. No problems here with her winning the AP award.

It's athlete of the year. What has she done this year that would over stride what Clark has done both this year and last year to women's sports.
This choice is politically motivated pure an simple. It would be fine if it was an Olympic year and she sweept the medals but it isn't and she didn't not even in her last appearance.
Just be glad they did not give it to Bayou Barbie. Biles is a great athlete and by all accounts a decent person. But receiving this award was nothing more than a result of on going pandering.
Biles came out of a two-year retirement from gymnastics, and decided to make a comeback at the age of 26, which is super old for gymnastics.
She won four world championship gold medals, her sixth US all-around title, while becoming the oldest woman to win the US all-around.
That gave her 30 world championship medals, the most ever, of which 23 are gold, the most ever. The all-around was her sixth all-around world title.
So Simone had 4 world championship titles in 2023, including the all-around. Caitlin didn't win the NCAA championship last year, she was a runner-up.
So? If you can't see the only reason she was given that award you shouldn't be driving

I'm ok with Simone Biles winning. She had a compelling story this year as well. I like it better than throwing splitting the award between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese simply because Sporting News was too afraid of the backlash from LSU fans if they didn't include her. If Angel Reese contributed to the explosion of women's basketball people would be buying tickets to see her play now.

She didn't get it for coming back. She got it for taking a two year lay off and then absolutely destroying all the competition she was up against. She's also 26 in a sport where 18 is generally "too old". What she did last summer was incredible.
