Since the NCAA allows it, why don't we cheat

The UI is building a new dorm, have a booster make the top 3 floors all bball players. And if it is too late for that, then build a new one. Build a paradise for Fran's Fellas. Pure luxury. That will bring in the top dogs for certain. Servant chefs, gigantic suites, doors they don't have to duck under to enter...one can only dream.

Where is our booster builder...? I say do it now, and get on top. Before the entire NCAA D1 programs HAVE to build them, just to keep up.

I am absolutely serious. Build this sucker NOW. Separate practice facilities will soon not be nearly enough. We were way behind the 8 ball with our practice facilities. And that hurt us. Lets not get behind the 8 ball again!

Time to be proactive Gary Barta...
How is any of this cheating?
Athletic dorms are not legal by NCAA and my guess is making 3 floors of a dorm with all the stuff he is asking for would be considered special privileges and against the rules.
What? Did you open the link. Kentucky has a multi-million dollar athletic dorm with all the bells and whistles. Last i heard Kansas received approval from their BOR to do the same. As long as half of it is populated with non-athletes it complies with the NCAA rules.

At Kentucky, I believe the "non-athletes" just happen to be managers for the basketball team. I wish we could do this at Iowa. I would certainly contribute...

Debaters. wouldn't count against "athletes" quotas. Hey, I'm always pitching for nerd world.

I don't know about today. Back in the day debate wasn't governed by NCAA rules but almost all of the bigger debate schools used to run debate schollies that were compliant with NCAA rules. They could fill 10 or 12 more dorm rooms and help debate recruiting at the same time...and yes, recruiting is part of college debate.

Plus, I'll bet a bunch of fresh/soph debaters would take a little extra coin to be built in tutors for some of the more academically marginal athletes.

Also grad students could live there....just happen to be in the athletic disciplines like training, administrating etc.....

Just care less. That is the solution to the whole college sports mess. Just remember it for what it is. A game!
Now I am not saying I don't love the Hawks, but I just don't get that upset anymore when we don't win. Life has been much easier this way. Not worth stressin over something you can't and will never control.
It will not change at Iowa. It is what it is. If you want better results go root for UK or Dukie....Not sure what else to recommend my friend..
Excellent response. You can drive yourself crazy over all the crap or just live with it and have some fun and enjoy it when Iowa wins and has good teams. I don't want to see us go the route of the blue bloods and can live with a clean program that at least resembles the student athelete model which college athletics supposedly go by. Life has enough worries and stresses without getting bent out of shape over the direction of college sports which we have no control over.

Whatever Kentucky is doing with facilities, it's not cheating.

So, while the premis of the question was wrong, the question itself is valid.

Why not do it? May as well get ahead if the game because everyone will be doing it in ten years.

Got to do something thing with all those millions and millions coming in from the tv network other than hand out ridiculouse contracts.

What cheating went on? Raveling was friends with Sonny Vaccaro, He was the best man at Vaccaro's 2nd wedding, They no longer speak because Raveling said he felt Vacarro's business was bad for college basketball. Many felt Vaccaro steered players to different programs but he NCAA never could find anything concrete on him.
Anyway, Since you broached the subject, How about your proof of all the cheating that went on while Raveling was at Iowa, I'm sure many of us would like to know.

I like the last line about NCAA requiring all athlete dorms to house 50% non-athletes. I wonder how the lucky girls are selected. Do you think by lottery, or do they let the player's vote on them based on their looks?
