Slay to Penn Regional Training Center

indication that Zadick takes over the Head Coaching job of USA wrestling?

Definitely doesn't hurt, but there was no way Slay would get the job in my opinion. I'm really pulling for Zadick.

If Zadick does get the job then there will be two openings as "assistants" which would be intriguing to see who lands those jobs.

Motive would be he feels he is giving the athlete advice and guidance for a difficult and important decision. That advice not always being a positive, depending your perspective.

Can someone tell me how schools benefit from the RTC's. I know there was some small hubbub when lil brother got one, but is there really a distinct advantage for say tOSU or PSU to having one vs "just" having the Hawkeye Wrestling Club? Just a curious question and a little OT, but feel this really didn't need a full thread. Thanks!

I would assume that the HWC is an RTC.

RTC's are an opportunity for universities to bring in senior level athletes to train full time in Olympic styles of wrestling. Having one on campus makes it accessible for college wrestlers to train with senior level athletes. If you plan on recruiting athletes with Olympic aspirations, having a RTC is pretty important. RTC's are pretty much the norm nowadays, if you don't have one it is a disadvantage.

This is all valid reasoning for having a wrestling club, like the HWC. I don't know the benefit of it being an RTC though. I think it's just being tied to USA Wrestling, but not sure how that benefits the individual RTC.

Here's the criteria for being an RTC:

Dang, I always thought HWC was an RTC

Nope and again, I don't think it is a big deal since we have the Hawkeye wrestling club, but was just curious if others knew if there was a distinct benefit of being an RTC that I wasn't aware of like funding, etc.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say one of the benefits of having a RTC compared to an school affiliated club would be in an RTC, other local post grad wrestlers could train there as well. Like if HWC was and RTC, we could have Gadson, Colon, or maybe even Imar train there.
IDK

This makes sense.....Which brings an interesting question. Would having an RTC and additional athletes like that have an impact on recruiting? I like where we are sitting with Ramos and Metcalf compared to the rest, but does attracting MORE wrestlers like IMAR, Gadsen, Colon, etc open the eyes of recruits to have in the room. Just a thought as I whittle away time for the trials! Can't come soon enough!

I also don't see Ohio State on there so the list could just be incomplete

Couldn't find their name either, but thought they were a site...

don't mean to derail the OP, but just wondered this amidst Slay going to Penn RTC...

Another thing that opens recruits eyes are having Olympians. Iowa must get at least 1 this weekend.

It would be huge for Iowa to get Ramos/Dennis and Metcalf on the Olympic team.
Probably some validity to that, but personally I think it would a far greater recruiting strategy to win some NCAA Titles again.

Cant argue with that. I'm hoping that putting a lightweight Ramos/Dennis on the Olympic team tips the Spencer Lee recruiting scale in our favor.

So, the boosters from TMWC give the HWC wrestlers money? If it was all about money, you would think HWC could afford their few international wrestlers.
Its a lot of money per year per wrestler. I dont think the HWC alone could cover it without the help of other sponsors. Traveling internationally, paying for living necessities, traveling within the country. It adds up pretty quick, especially with 4-5 guys who are training full time with the HWC. I'd imagine easily up in the 6 digit figures.

I agree with its a lot of money but, TMWC has over 75 wrestlers, HWC has FIVE!!

I don't know anything about how TMWC is funded, but I'm pretty sure the HWC is funded through Donations and fundraisers, which may play a factor. But I know as much about the financial situation as the next guy, just pure speculation.
