So, how big of a douche bag was Michael Jordan?

I stayed in the same Hotel as the Bulls once in their final year together (98?). Jordan was a douche, but didn't do anything over the top. He avoided people at all cost, but I can't say I'd blame him.

Phil Jackson came off as a bigger douche, for no apparent reason. I was in an elevator with him and watched him scoff at a guy and his kid asked if they can have his autograph. I get turning them down, but he declined in the most condescending, almost mocking way that he could. The kid was like 10.

I didn't see much of Pippen. Rodman was a man of the people. Very engaging, nice to everyone, very accessible. I realize he is what he is, but he was very nice to people when I saw him.

The same traits that make people really good at sports, or most things really, also tend to make people condescending a-holes. Part of it is you can't be a nice guy all the time but more is just because you have to have no remorse and value winning over all else. Actually, they share a lot of personality traits as sociopaths.

Not that this is an excuse, it just means I'm not surprised. I sure had fun watching him play though. Since I never had to deal with him on a one on one basis, I'm ok with that.

I agree with this. They're wired differently. It is what it is.

The supremely talented have demons. It is hard to imagine someone so great at something, but is also warm hearted to common folk. There are, no doubt, some out there, but they are rare indeed.
