So Iowa...

Wouldn’t it just be so typical Iowan luck that the one time we have a legit shot at a national presence, the season gets cancelled, and players lose a year of eligibility. Garza leaves, and we are back to mediocrity. Watch it happen.

One time? We had multiple chances just in the past ten years.

We have had a couple teams that made surprise appearances in the top 10, but nothing sustained more than a month in the top 10, and I don’t think any of us on here were nearly as high on those team as we are this one from a true National contender perspective. That could be just me though.

In our lifetimes, and I'm 53, we have never had a player potentially returning, with the star power of Garza, and no one is a close second. No one.

Combined with six players who started last year and this is a chance to accomplish things we have only dreamed of previously.

Ronnie Lester. If he hadn't been injured that was certainly a title contender, and we still got to the Final four and lost to the champ...Ronnie was at minimum a first team AA guard.....

No, sorry. Ronnie didn't score 44 in AA or 38 in Bloomington.

Not knocking him as I saw him play but Luka dominated the league like not many have ever done.

I'm trying to be positive and assume that four months from now people will see the actual number of deaths in the U.S. From January to the end of April the actual number of deaths in the country are far less than the previous year. And less than the average number of deaths for the last five years. But you'd never know it by listening to the media. Just give us our Hawkeye Basketball please.

I’ve been having the same thought a lot lately. We never even found out what seed we would have gotten in the tourney last year, which I still don’t understand why they couldn’t have at least given us that much. In wrestling they at least gave us the seeds the wrestlers would have had.

And then for next year it feels like our best case scenario is some sort of abbreviated season with few or no fans in the arena. So in general it feels like the future boost to the program that we could have gotten from this team is going to be kind of minimal compared to what it could have been. Sucks.

Oh it’s going to happen

Oh it’s going to happen

Thank you for putting the FBnBB4Life jinx on it.

I think Iowa will have a good season, if there is one, but it's terribly hard for a program like Iowa to meet expectations when there's a target on their back.

If Iowa ever makes it back to the Final Four, it'll be a season when no one is expecting them to.

Are you sure about that?

Just a reminder, Iowa lost both of those games you noted.

Yes, Garza was dominant, but I'd be happier if he averaged closer to 15-18 ppg and we win those games. Opportunity is there with a lot of offensive fire power, depth, and hopefully the experience and improvements on the defensive end to get the key stops needed to win those types of games.

I know Iowa lost both games, I was referring to his individual dominance.

If Luka returns, hopefully I think it's likely, he will be the BEST Iowa
Hawkeye Men's BB player in the history of the program.

Prove me wrong...……..go.

If he has a season similar to or even better than last year, no doubt. Especially if Iowa makes a deep run in March.

My concern is if Luka even comes back. If it weren't for COVID, I think it's a no-brainer he returns. However, because of COVID, the college basketball season is far from a sure thing. I have a sense that Luka is considering that, and if Euro ball seems more for certain, he might try to go play overseas.

My hope is that he loves Iowa and his teammates and is willing to take the chance of coming back for a potentially special season.

Have to admit it's looking worse and worse everyday for sports to return before a vaccine. But it is said that it's always darkest before the dawn, let's keep hope.

You the type of person who believes in curses? Talking about programs & expectations? It's all about the roster and how good they are, doesn't matter if there's a target on their back or not.

I think the most likely thing is shortened season with conference only and then a tournament. Maybe not even a conference tournament.

Not knocking Luka obviously, but as a facilitator at the point Lester made everyone around him better as well as being a very good scorer and defender. Its hard to measure the impact a player like that has. I do know where he led his team, on a bad leg even. I don't care if Luka scores 12 points a game this year if we end up playing in the final four.

I think they are good enough even with a target on their back. Garza vs a bunch of new centers and the great shooters , leaders, and quick guards is a formula to win the big 10 and get a good seed. Should get through the first weekend as most number 1 seed do and then anything can happen.

We lost both of those games because Ronnie injured his knee a second time in the first game against Louisville. I have long been of the opinion we would have won the championship if Ronnie had not been hurt.

Nah, not curses. Just tempered expectations.

I do think Iowa should be the highest scoring team in the country. They have a good shot at a special season, assuming Garza is back.

Too much $$$. They'll play hoops

Garza comes anywhere close to last season's numbers and he leaves I.C. as the best ever.

Pffft, there are no Drs, lawyers, etc. etc. That have any real clue what the hell has happened and how to quantify or qualify what the world has been going through since the beginning of this year.
The other day on natl news in the matter of less than 5 mins wearing masks was countered by not wearing masks with information to back each.
Bottom line is to date we have pretty much gained no real knowledge of how to stop this virus.
Research has given us some knowledge of what it is doing to us but no real answers on stopping it or slowing it down in large part.
We are still not really sure how it spreads.
It just shows how much we are not in control of things despite our arrogant thoughts that we are.

I am 70 years old and have been watching Hawkeye Basketball in person since 1960. I think that by 1970 I had as good an eye as any other run of the mill fan. Those of you too young to have seen Ronnie Lester in the flesh really can not understand how truly great he was. He was a nearly perfect player and team-mate. He made Iowa lethal. Nobody has ever come close to him wearing the Black n Gold.

But now comes Luka Garza. He is a true force of nature. His skills and physical dominance are a once in a multi-generational occurance. He is truly a jaw dropping specimen and you can see the fear in his opponents eyes...and you can tell he senses that as well, and he enjoys it.

In my time on this earth, if I was being honest, I would still rate Lester higher than Garza, if its even possible to rate them as a pair because of the different spots they play on the floor. But that is now, today. I fully expect that if Luka comes back for 20/21 he will erase any doubt about who the best player at Iowa ever was. Just as we still speak of Lester a half century on, I expect Luka will do things this season that will cement his legacy at Iowa for at least a 100 years from now.

Scoring 18 isnt dominant. If JBO played last year we win both of those

SIGN ME UP!!!!!! Huge advantage for us

wth does Ronnie have to do with Garza scoring 44 in Ann Arbor and 38 in Bloomington?
