So is buying Canada and Greenland going to help the deficit and bring egg prices down?

Greenland is a loss leader currently. Denmark has to subsidize them billions just to maintain a population.

I know acquiring Greenland came up in his first term, but does anyone know why Trump has a interest in Greenland?

As I recall, this was primarily related to national security and the increasing viability of the northwest passage as a shipping route due to climate change...

Thanks, but I find it hard to believe the existence of climate change is acknowledged as a reason for doing anything by Trump and his followers. There's got to be some other silly or self serving explanation, probably related to his celebrity/TV fame coming from making 'deals' and real estate related transactions.

Well no. It can't be acknowledged. Doesn't mean it doesn't factor into decision making.

Controlling the Northwest Passage and Panama Canal would both be a major economic asset.

I think it has oil and natural gas resources as well as some rare earth metals used in electric cars.

I expect this is all about Chinese encroachment, and sending a message.
Then why not send the message to the Chinese. Mixed signals start Wars unnecessarily as well. See our responses to Iraq and their intentions with Kuwait. Saddam our ally at the time felt he had the green light. While Israel and Saudi Arabia our other allies disagreed. Repressive governments such as Russia, North Korea, Iran, China understand direct talk way better than whatever this is.

I tend to agree that this is a form of probing to gauge reactions. And you are right, probing can be dangerous, though this one is so off the reservation crazy that I suspect the true risks are relatively low.

How will his comments start a war? A war with whom?

Well the Chinese don’t think the way we do. Of course with the amount of hacking by them. Probably past time to care about how they think. Their internal issues are making them more aggressive. The more trade removed from them is reminding me more of the situation the Japanese Empire found themselves in pre Pearl Harbor.

If you start using this tactic. Some countries will either discount it or take it too seriously in other instances. I’m thinking along the lines in other dialogues. The North Koreans, Russians, Iranians, Syrians , South Africa, etc etc. Name the hot spot or potential hot spot.

Not only is trump not going to do anything to lower prices, he plans to increase inflation with his tariffs.
The next four years are going to be an unmitigated disaster.

My 401k is gonna take a beating.

Republicans =Trash

He really should just stop having his bibles made in China if they bother him that much.

Yo really think this is 4D level probing by a genius level negotiator?
It’s grandpa mumbling stuff and the cult having to agree with him no matter how stupid it is.

This is a version of the infamous/famous 3D Chess we hear about.

Our new government is doing this to get under Mr. Putin's skin. The U.S. has been raising hell over Putin's plan to acquire Ukraine/Crimea/Georgia/Moldova/Belarus/Finland/Estonia
/Latvia/Alaska etc.

By us turning around and doing the exact same thing, and with an air of Western superiority, Putin goes wild.

... and then Don Jr. goes off on an adventurous expedition and he goes even more mad.

I find the entire thing amusing and entertaining in a "Mr. Putin, only the U.S. is allowed to empire build" manner. We should definitely maintain a seeming failure to notice what Putin might consider hypocrisy.
..........................................................

Incidentally, we should open a window for foreign countries to voluntarily become territories of the United States. We might get a couple of takers ... Cuba, Haiti, Georgia or at least the breakaway provinces, the Philippine's, a few of the northern states in Mexico?

Now that Biden is gone, and with a dealmaker in charge, we might be able to make such a program work.
