So Israel basically accomplished nothing . . .

Of course not.

I don’t like kids getting killed either.

I don’t know what the answer is, but Israel playing nice is not a viable strategy. Now, if it can be proven that kids were intentionally murdered, or killed by some type of depraved indifference, then those responsible should be charged with war crimes.
They need a non corrupt joke of a Prime Minister for starters only in power still to avoid jail. Hmmm seems familiar

Sure, playing nice is not great. Looking to engage in a war to stay out of jail is bad.
Reports indicate Bibi knew about the attack beforehand and allowed it to happen so that he could start a conflict and stay in power.
Then he started carpet bombing because he knew he could.

No one is saying that Hamas is good. Just that what Israel is doing is criminal. They're trading palestinian bodies for power.

Look, I get it. And there are people who stated GWB knew 9/11 was going to happen so he could use that as justification to start war in the ME

My point is it’s tragic all the way around, but my personal opinion is liberals are too critical of Israel when considering what Israel has been up against. You seem to have a more balanced approach, so I find no fault to what you’re saying. I just take a lot of media reports with a grain of salt.

Let's start with the corrupt joke of a PM of Israel going to court and we'll go from there

Liberals aren't critical enough. Everyone is afraid of criticizing the government because they'll be called an anti-semite. Bibe knows this and uses it as a shield.
They've been pushing the palestinians for decades now knowing that every conflict costs them territory. It's calculated and it's gross.

Observing what has happened and commenting on it isn't "siding" with anyone.

Do you think either Israel or Hamas/Iran accomplished their strategic goals during the year-plus war?
Israel. They have killed dozens of Hamas leadership, decimated Hezbollah with insane out of a suspense novel tactics, and have shown the world, thru Iran's own actions, that Iran would get its tail kicked in weeks by Israel, were Iran to FAFO.

This isn't hard. The only thing keeping Israel from wiping out all of Islam is their honor and righteousness. If circumstances were reversed (money, power and personnel wise) Israel would have been exterminated by now. Everyone knows this to be true.

Why do liberals insist on siding with misogynistic, intolerant, evil, murdering, anti-LGBTQ, religious bigots? Because they have more melanin than most Jews?

I don’t get it.

The irony is that Hamas and their Palestinian supporters revere Hitler and are as close to modern day Nazis as there is on this Earth.

Liberals when they realize this obvious truth:

I noticed years ago on here, or anywhere else really, that people will stay away from anything critical of Israel. No shock but people have been socially conditioned for years to be afraid of subjects involving Israel.

My old friend used to bring it up back as early as 2015.

Similar list for me. Israel for the same reasons, and how obedient our politicians are to their lobby.

Top notch sarcasm! Israel thrives on turmoil, and Palestine would have to just accept Israel homesteading their territories.

Don't confuse antisemitism with not being supportive of Israel.

The Republican party is more Israel first. They have blind support for Israel no matter what they do. Israel could probably get caught spying on us or attacking one of our ships, and get more aid money from us the next day.

This isn’t going away until the Jews leave or there’s no Arabs living in Israel. Even then it won’t end, the conflicts between Arabs and Jews will likely never end. The only reason this has only been an issue since 1930s is because basically prior to this time it was all land subject to Turkey (Ottoman Empire) where all of this area was Arab land where they a
Only tolerated Christians and Jews who were second class citizens. Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, etc are all European concepts that were created after WWI. In fact, Palestine was a reference to Jews… Muslims rejected this term due to its Jewish inference. Arabs/Muslims have only tolerated Jews and will never accept them having control of land and power. Remember, these lands/towns are named after families going back thousands of years… mostly Arab… who have lost them, their power/influence and history to Jews since 1948. Hate to say it, but only 1 of them can win and don’t see either side relenting. I think the o ly way it sort of works is if only Jews are in Israel and then the neighboring Arabs tolerating them.

Some here have a stubborn inability to separate the government from the religion/ethnicity.

I don’t know how they explain Israelis and Jews who are opposed to Netanyahu, settlements, etc.

ISIS, AQ, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Taliban, and a handful of other such groups will have to be contained or better yet eliminated. For now, we (Western Society) do not have the ability, the heart, or even the attention span to do this.

Going forward, every 15-20 years, we (or one of our proxies) are going to have to do something similar to our/Israel's current efforts.

These "Wars" are one and the same with the continuing assault on Western Civilization. They are not even wars. They are campaigns within this larger assault on our very existence. We are playing "Whack-a-Mole" with despots/extremists who ensure that when their day is done, someone else is already at the helm. Remember that Athens ultimately lost to Sparta ... and that we pride ourselves for being inspired by Athens. The good guys do not always win.

As it stands, the best that we can hope for is another century or two of this game. Our only hope is to aggressively endorse occupation and Nation-Building. Unless we commit to something along the lines of what we did in the Philippine's or to what England committed to in Hong Kong, we are toast. Those were 100-year commitments, and I suspect that even longer commitments are needed going forward.

This is not a "Throw the rascals out" situation where we then pick up our toys and come home. This is permanent war and the Gaza Campaign has barely started.
.......................................

Hey WSJ? ... Why are you acting surprised? Do you remember the Taliban? They won their war, and Hamas is planning on doing the same and they are committed.

Until Hamas/Hezbollah/Arabs doesn't want to annihilate Isreal and kill every Jew in the ME, there will be no peace.

Pretty much sums it up and that sentiment has existed since 1948 or so. We should have peace in the middle east any day now though once they eradicate the last of Hamas.

Aside from degrading g scale and capabilities, Israel might have achieved something inadvertently by getting things to the point that hamas is now going to have to deal with the foibles of a ny real estate developer in reconstruction

Actually that is the only way to handle the issue. People like you are why it wasn't handled 20 years ago
sure

w, dick cheney, and the rest of that admin just wasn't willing to kill enough people

that was the problem in iraq

Until the leadership there gets serious about a 2-state solution the fighting will never end.

I don’t pretend to know the answer to how to get there in detail, but it’s obvious they need to find some Palestinian partner that isn’t Hamas to work with.
The problem is even if they find that partner. The Israeli hard liners will not allow a deal. The Zionist murdered the last Prime Minister that attempted one. They’ll do it again.

Other than several thousand revenge killings and inspiring a new generation of terrorists.

Cool, cool.

Wall Street Journal:

Hamas Is Effectively Back in Control in Gaza

With no alternative following a cease-fire with Israel, the militant group has a moment to assert power

After Israeli troops stood down when a cease-fire came into effect in the Gaza Strip, Hamas began sending thousands of its forces onto the streets to establish control.

The deployment—envisioned by the agreement that pauses the fighting while the combatants exchange hostages for prisoners—highlights how the U.S.-designated terrorist group remains the dominant power in the territory. Israel hasn’t been able to destroy the group or empower an alternative.

Hamas punctuated its authority Sunday by parading armed and uniformed militants through the streets flashing V-signs to cheering crowds. When Hamas transferred the first Israeli hostages to the Red Cross, Arab mediators said they could see fighters from Hamas’s core Nukhba Force unit clad in full military gear and armed.

The open show of force after months of being pushed underground was a signal that aid groups and governments will need to cooperate with Hamas as reconstruction efforts get under way in the coming weeks—an outcome Israel has hoped to prevent.

“The Hamas presence on the ground armed is a slap in the face to the Israeli government and army,” said Gershon Baskin, a former Israeli hostage negotiator who is now Middle East director for the diplomacy advocacy group International Communities Organization. “It highlights that Israel’s goals for the war were never achievable.”

The fragile truce between Israel and Hamas pauses a war that is among the deadliest in modern Middle Eastern history. The conflict has reduced much of Gaza to rubble and killed around 47,000 people in the enclave following Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which killed about 1,200 people and left another 250 held hostage.

If it holds, the cease-fire could ease tensions in the region after more than a year of a conflict that drew in the U.S. and Iran and its allied militias across the Middle East. But it also raises substantial questions about how Gaza will be governed after the fighting.

During the 15-month conflict, Israel has battered Hamas in one part of Gaza before moving on to fight in other areas, leaving behind vacuums that have turned lawless as militants tried to reconstitute their forces and criminal gangs battled for control. The lack of order snarled aid deliveries and created new threats for ordinary Palestinians already struggling with the fighting and deprivation.

The U.S. and Israel’s own security establishment pressed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to come up with a plan for Gaza’s postwar governance, but so far he hasn’t done so. The Palestinian Authority, which oversees much of the occupied West Bank, has said it is ready for the job, but Netanyahu, opposed to a two-state solution, doesn’t want it involved. Hamas has stepped into the breach.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said Sunday that the current deal is only for a temporary cease-fire and that a permanent end to the war would depend on Hamas abdicating power in later stages of the negotiations. He said Israel has yet to fulfill its war aims of dismantling Hamas’s military and governing capabilities, and indicated it is prepared to re-displace Palestinians if hostilities are renewed.

“There is no future of peace, stability and security for both sides if Hamas stays in power,” Sa’ar said.
So you believe Israel should take whatever comes their way without consequences for their attackers?

I'm coming in sideways in this conversation, so how far can Isreal go without facing criticism? They were attacked. They countered.

Is genocide acceptable? Destroy all the hospitals, schools. etc. Bomb and shell everything indiscriminately. The Jewish people have the reason to be contemptuous but also understanding of what abstract implementation of death means.

Personally, I'm mostly ambivalent to Isreal's situation because of our tolerance of Netanyahu's corruption. I feel our aid to support Isreal as an ally is warranted to ensure peace in the Mid East and protect the population of the country. I do not trust their government.

The arab world has been trying to exterminate Israel and the jews for decades. Their goal is the genocide of jews and the elimination of Israel. They have been acting on that for decades. If asked today they would say the exact same thing. Hamas and the Palestinians are at war and will remain at war until Israel is gone. How long should that be tolerated? How many bombs and rockets and murders should Israel endure before they are allowed to end the problem? Bill Clintons speech on his efforts are linked above. He realized and states quite clearly in that speech that the Palestinian objective is to end Israel and end the jews.

The people in this thread standing with Hamas are the very people calling others nazis for standing beside Israel. Go read their posts. They stand with terrorists and those that would kill every jew that can be found.

Israel has been more than tolerant.
