So much for a GREAT year, maybe we can still have a good season

I don't see a realistic path to a B1G title folks. Especially when you look at our upcoming schedule. I thought we'd lose two of the games we have remaining, but PSU throws a loop in it. The way Iowa has been playing, we could lose them all.

You guys are depressing. HELLO we're still tied for 1st.

The team can spend the next week resting and prepping for a home game against WI. Until that game there is no reason to think our chances for a title are over.

That's the thing we aren't tied for 1st. Both Maryland and Indiana beat us head-to-head so that currently puts us in 3rd.

Wrong. Technically, we're tied for first with Indiana at 11-3, with Maryland 10-3. Maryland still has to beat Minnesota tomorrow to set up the 3-way tie scenario. I'd assume the MD win I over MN, but I'd have assumed Iowa's win tonight, too.

Okay so then we're second now and likely to be 3rd after tomorrow

I had a weird feeling of dejavu just now.

We will sputter a bit heading into the NCAA tourney. We end up a 4 seed but we reach the Final 4. No joke. Calling it now.

On a scale of 1-10 the OP registers a zeto. That's why he is a total troll. He's most likely not even an Iowa fan.

It's already been a good year even if we lose out. Go back and read the posts and prognostic predictions after the exhibition loss and even earlier in the year. Most thought this was an NIT or bubble team at best. At 20 wins, 11 in conference we are in the big dance which is the goal every season. That's good in my book.

The team is gassed so let's see what some rest does to get our legs back for a stretch run.

OP is just stating the truth right now, you might not like it but that doesn't make him wrong, and you are wrong also, if Iowa loses out this will end up NOT being a good year at all, it will be a typical iowa CHOKE job when pressure gets to much

They only consider that for seeding, not for saying who won the conference.

Iowa still controls its own destiny with regard to Indiana. They have to come to Carver. If Iowa wins, it ends the tie-break advantage they have and would give them one more loss (based on current records). If Indiana wins, then they'll have swept Iowa and would likely finish ahead in the standings. Maryland is the one Iowa has no control over, but they have some tough games left, too.

Huge Iowa fan, been to countless football, basketball, and baseball games. You lost all credibility when you said Iowa could lose out and it would be a good year. If Iowa loses out they'd be 20-10, 11-7 in the B1G and probably on the 8/9 line.

The trick there is perspective. If you'd have told me in October that Iowa would go 20-10/11-7, I'd have taken it. From 20-5/11-2, it would be a hard pill to swallow.

Another way YOU could think about it is, as far as contenders go, we are in last place.

Why do you watch and why are you even on here unless you're trolling.

Is there a board anywhere online for Hawk fans?

I watch every game from start to finish because I'm a die hard and I don't need to explain myself to some D-bag like you. I love it when D-bags troll by accusing others of trolling. Classic.

No douche. There are no boards online for Hawk fans, just for trolls and haters. Happy?

If the Hawks can have a deep run in the NCAA tourney I will consider it a great season, A loss to PSU isn't going to change that one bit for me.

At least I had some credibility to lose. Your not the only one to attend countless games by the way.

The problem is that Fran will not rest them. He will work them harder. Which if we lose will beat them down.
I'd rather we mimic what we were doing mid-December. That'll do the trick.

Obviously, if Iowa loses out, there won't be a B1G title.....but no realistic path? You realize the competition still has to play tough games, too, right?

Indiana's last 4: Purdue, @ Illinois, @ Iowa, Maryland
Maryland's last 5: @ Minny, Michigan, @ Purdue, Illinois, @Indiana
Iowa's last 4: Wisconsin, @ OSU, Indiana, @ Michigan
Wisconsin's last 6: @ MSU, Illinois, @ Iowa, Michigan, @ Minny, @ Purdue

If any of these teams win out, they'll probably be in at least a tie for the title. Maryland has two very tough road games left. Indiana plays 3 of the conference's top teams. Wisconsin's closing slate includes 3 brutal road games. Each of these teams could very well lose 2 more more. Iowa still probably has the schedule edge on paper, plus they control their own destiny against Wisconsin and would eliminate Indiana's tiebreaker by winning on Senior Day. Purdue could actually be Iowa's best friend down the stretch if they play well down the stretch.

It's going to be a great stretch run.

All those thinking this year is lost after this 3 game stretch is a pathetic Hawkeye fan and should just jump ship. You sound like Cyclone fans and probably have a parent or close relative that is one, I'm sorry about your luck but stop playing Hawkeye and imbrace your inner Clone.

Couldn't ask for a better season, been in the national spotlight for over half of the year. All good in my book, unless of course we go 1-3 or less to finish the season.

Huge Iowa fan but you seem to only show up after losses. You revel in them. Fans like you we don't need.

Good post! Those who think the season is lost should just stop watching. Iowa hasn't been as sharp, but as Hawkifann points out, we still are sitting in as good a position as any of the other contenders, probably better. In case you haven't noticed, Iowa isn't the only team that has struggled recently. It is highly unlikely that any team is going to win out, and 14-4 could even finish alone in first. The season is a grind, and every team will have stretches when they aren't playing their best. Now is the time to rally behind the team, not to start whining about not playing great. It is going to be an exciting stretch run!

I am here win or lose 90% of the time. It just so happens that I was at a hotel for my birthday the night of the MSU game so I did not rush to post over right after my birthday dinner/festivities.

Never said I was or was not, but when you question my loyalty as a Hawkeye fan. I've just seen the movie too many times in my years of not taking advantage of what could be GREAT years.

Everything is in the eye of the beholder, I think it has been a great season, Before the season how many among us truly believed the Hawks would be tied for 1st with 4 games to go? How about having a legit shot at a 1,2 or 3 seed in the NCAA tourney? This team has flaws, I think the great start in the big season made many feel that the team is truly better than it really is. It is a good team, When rolling they can be a very good team, But they have weakness' that can be exploited. ( lack of quickness throughout the lineup and not physically strong on the front line for example) I know losing to PSU sucked, But in the big picture the reality at least in my eyes is that this team has been over achieving this year, In a year where there is no clear cut favorite to win it all perhaps this team can over achieve and have a deep run in the tourney.

I think you've imagined this scenario.

This is the first opportunity for Iowa to have a great year since Luke Reckers first year.

Before that it was probably Early 90s before Street passed.

There's no correlation between any of it.

Get a grip.

Really? When Iowa won the B1G tournament with Brunner/Horner that couldn't have been a great year? The table was set for an amazing tournament run.

Agree with most everything you said except the overachieving part. Did I expect this team to be in a tie for 1st with 4 games to go? No but I was surprised they weren't ranked to start the season with a veteran lineup and coming off a decent season last year. Fran built this team to be good this year. As far as great teams this year in college basketball, you can maybe count them on one hand.

I also thought we would be better than many of the prognosticators, But I thought more along the line of possibly 5th place, Hence the overachieving thoughts. Razorhawk, Do you have ties to Arkansas? Just curious, I live in the Fort Smith area.

Yes, I live about 30 miles southeast of Branson, MO near Harrison, AR. Been to Fort Smith, nice city.
