Wow. I thought Ohio State quit against Iowa but looking back they were still trying when they were down 48-17 as evidenced by the fact that they tried and managed to score another TD. They just got whipped. I thought Iowa quit late against UW but they just got whipped. I thought Iowa quit against Purdue, but they managed to find life in the 4th quarter and tried to win (never mind the 2-point conversion controversy; they were trying to win even if it was a boneheaded decision).

But Nebraska? They quit before the second half started. They quit when the game was still tied. Did the AD come into the locker room at halftime and tell Riley he was officially done after the game in front of all of the players? I've never seen a team that was in the game quit like that to that degree. I'm stunned. Happy, but stunned. I think Iowa might have broken the law. It was like watching Nebraska trying to die and Iowa forcing them to stay alive so they could inflict more pain and suffering. Just brutal. lol

Unfortunately that was like the 4th or 5th time I've seen it this year. Hopefully we turn it around and if not enjoy your guaranteed win every year.

I almost felt bad for Nebraska fans, but I think this season will provide some realistic humility going forward. Now you know what truly sucking looks like. You'll be able to appreciate coaches like Solich and Pelini now even if they were somewhat flawed (or total assholes in Pelini's case--I'd rather have an asshole coach who fights than a nice guy whose team quits. I'm guessing you would, too, at this point).

Yeah, Bo just really rubbed me wrong. I don't care who the next guy is, I hope it's Frost, I just want the kids to play hard. We have to give the next guy more time as long as the team is playing hard. The team you guys played yesterday was so mentally fragile it was embarrassing. All I know is there is no reason we can't have the success Wisconsin, Iowa, and even Northwestern have. We've got to get the formula figured out and start building. The good news is that there is a core base of talent already there for the next guy. I think it's all in the skill positions though. I don't know, apathy has set in for me at the moment.

Good post. Thoughtful, reasonable. If I'm being honest and realistic, I don't believe Nebraska will stay down at all, not for long, anyway. You nailed it when you said "as long as the team is playing hard." I hadn't really seen Nebraska play this year, just saw the scores and read the reports. But seeing the team just fall apart in the second half and, to some extent, some guys seemingly giving up or just not having the mental toughness to compete (on defense, especially) I was stunned. It's rare to see that with any team, but I had never seen that from Nebraska. Even last year's 40-10 loss to the Hawks wasn't really a case where Nebraska quit. They got beat at the LOS, but they still tried. They just failed to play as well as Iowa did.

This game, though? I mean, they were in it at half. They had some sloppy play in the first half, but so did Iowa. It wasn't pretty, but they were in the game. I'm sure all of the special teams errors affected the O and D, too--the special teams for Nebraska were even worse than I've seen from Iowa all year, which is really saying something. Still, I can't understand it. Just never seen that from Nebraska.

I think you're probably better off with apathy at the moment. Once you figure out your new coach and all that, you can probably start to invest in the future. But for now? Yeah, I would take a step back because that team this year and especially the last half of football, wouldn't be good for your mental health to do anything but step back. It's not like I'm glad you guys are suffering, but I think you'll have more appreciation for effort and getting decent wins even if they're just over the likes of Northwestern and Michigan State. Once you get back to that level you can really start to look forward to maybe taking the next step.

Peace.
