So was Iowa bidding against themselves for Gronowski?

If they knew about the injury and was going to be tabled until June, he obviously wasn’t going to the combine. And we were told by multiple sources it was Iowa or the NFL. I find it hard to believe anyone would draft him without seeing him in the combine. Someone help me out here, it’s not adding up to me.

Yeah, I feel like we were the idiot who was outbidding himself in an EBay auction…grossly overpaying in the end. 😉

I’m sure there were tire kickers and did hear Brada say an SEC was making a late push but from all we heard is it was Iowa or the NFL. The NFL was clearly never on the table if he was having surgery that would’ve made him miss the combine. So I’m skeptical of a post-mortem “oh there were others interested we just didn’t report on them” scenario. Feels like damage control.

Hawk Central also said an SEC Team made a push

If he went to the combine, they would have done a comprehensive physical on him. He would have failed.

Do you guys even take the time to actually read what is written, or do you just hear something and go off like you have all the details. This is very minor surgery. It was stated that he played with this condition all last year and that he could have continued to play with it this year but chose to have surgery. There is nothing that would prevent him from going to the NFL or playing for any college team. Also, nowhere does it say that he couldn't play in Spring. Lots of knee jerk conclusions here.

It's clearly not minor enough for him to make it to Spring practice.
If going to the NFL was actually on the table, he would have had the surgery already and would be rehabbing for the Combine. The surgery would have been scheduled within a matter of days after his last game, not weeks.

"Nowhere does it say he couldn't play in the spring." No? Well, a guy named Kirk Ferentz has been quoted as saying the kid won't be involved in football on the field until June. So is Iowa holding spring practice in June or July this year? LOL

If it's so minor, why would he not be able to participate in spring practice? He'd have about 3 months to recuperate. If it takes that long and longer, it's not what I'd call minor, although I am not a doctor. Hell, I've never even played one on TV. In fact, I don't even have a podcast.

Iowa wouldn't be the first team to overpay for a quarterback. Remember, Missouri just paid 1,500,000 for Penn State's backup. The backup quarterback at Texas makes more money than the entire roster at Iowa.

This just stings because it feels like déjà vu all over again. Fortunately, this guy wasn't a game manager surrounded by the nation's most elite talent like McNamara was at Michigan (i believe 3 WRs, a RB, and the freshmen qb are all in the NFL now).

The Hawks paid through the nose the top player in all of FCS. Huge difference from Cade. And since his surgery is not on his knee, he should still be the same mobile quarterback he was this year when he suits up for the Hawks.

He was surrounded the previous 2 yrs with elite talent, they won b2b NCs with that talent. Iowa's overall offensive talent < SDSUs offensive talent during the same stretch.

Why go after bums like McCord, Air Noland, Will Howard, Cam Ward or Dillon Gabriel. Trust a program that went out and got CADE MCNAMERA!!!! Did you see how well he could hand that ball of at Michigan?
