So when will some Republican state ban birth control?

Cue the “both sides moderate” types who will come in and say Huey is overreacting, that this will never happen and then gets all “shocked pikachu” face when it happens, then ponders how/why that happened

Oregon voters approved the Death With Dignity Act.

Why do you have a problem with terminally ill patients bring able to end their suffering.

And i know you wont click on the link to educate yourself, so ill cut to the requirements:

To qualify for Death with Dignity, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Two physicians agree you have a terminal prognosis (6 or fewer months to live).
  • Remain on Oregon throughout the Death with Dignity process.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to make decisions for yourself and take the medicines yourself

Definitely a more dignified way to go than offing yourself in a home to have a loved one find you. Scruddy hates giving people freedom and body autonomy

You can spin assisted suicide as somehow virtuous and moral, but when there are videos of citizens being told to consider suicide as a method of avoiding debt repayment then I'm not sure it has anything to do with "dignity". Not surprising that Oregon is leading that charge either. Equally as unsurprising as half of Oregon not wanting anything to do with the western (liberal) side of the state and wishing to break off to join Idaho.

I knew you wouldnt read the link.

I didnt think you would avoid reading the requirements inposted from the as it relates to Oregons law. I gave you too much credit

But you do you, scruff

EDIT to ADD: i am sure you will be quick to provide links to the videos you mentioned.

There are certainly some Republicans who have made noise about birth control or at least getting rid of the court ruling regarding birth control.

I've been wrong before but I still don't think they go through with this. There are just way too many Republicans who use birth control. They've already gotten plenty of backlash about Roe, you might get a few that are of the mind of "hold my beer", but could you get a majority in a state legislature? Even in a super conservative state?

Also doing something big like that would require the endorsement of the cult leader and the cult leader has started backing off the abortion train. So even he realizes that it wasn't something that won him votes and going further would cost him more.

Ever watched someone you love who is 89 and confined to a bed in a facility who said to you in a rare moment of lucidity "don't ever get this old?" He laid there for 7 months, had to be fed, had to be changed, had to have bed sores tended to as well as possible. Thought he heard people saying he is a bad person and always thought he had to go somewhere, was late for meetings. Wanted to go home. I would guess nobody wants to live like that.

I do wonder if there will be an expensive and dangerous black market for abortion pills. A probably better option than the infamous wire clothes hanger.
Of course there will be. I can see people popping over to Mexico to grab some birth control pills. I know many drugs that are prescription only in the US can be bought over the counter in Mexico. At least that was the case 10-15 years ago…

Maybe the same day a blue state passes a law making it legal to kill an unwanted baby after it is born.

I think it's about 50% the Rs ban BC. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they went after IUDs, the pill, or some other form designed for women.

I would say 20% maybe.

At this point I'm kind of hoping they go for it. Because it would break the back of their support. So many Republicans use birth control and if they go find out that they can't get birth control anymore they will likely quickly change their voting at least for a while.

A year ago I’d not have thought it was even a possibility. That Alabama ruling is terrifying in its implications.

I hope not. I’m not convinced they won’t try at least tho.

I say let them.

You want to turn Texas blue? Have the Texas state legislature vote to make contraceptives illegal.

Very few people go through life without using some form of contraceptives. Even the most socially conservative, didn't have sex til they got married, people often use contraceptives so they don't have like 15 kids (in their marriage). The ones that have 15 kids are extreme outliers. Less than 1%.

They would get destroyed by that one.

I heard that there is a move afoot by MAGA women to ban masturbation on the grounds that you're killing half a baby. The MAGA men are pretty concerned about this becoming a plank at the convention. They're furiously rubbing them out non-stop in anticipation of the ban.

Rs said abortion bans weren't coming. They did. Then said it wouldn't go beyond that. Alabama proved that wrong. And now Rs are floating banning recreational sex. It's clear BC is up next.
Why do you think any state would ban birth control. They could have done that at any time in the past.

im still waiting for the scrudster to provide these videos.

Seems like a drastic step to get out of debt when one could file for bankruptcy.

Scary thing is that the 20% aren't the fringe nutjobs that have no sway in the Republican party and can be ignored. The 20% are the ones that have lawmakers ears.

This guy is behind the CRT, Trans Kids, book banning, and DEI panic. Do you really think more than 20% of Republican voters or politicans cared about these issues enough to build campaigns or pass legislation about them before these far right weirdos started beating the drum?

This is incorrect. SCOTUS held that laws banning married people from obtain birth control were unconstitutional (Griswold v. Connecticut)...then SCOTUS held single people had the fundamental right to obtain birth control (Eisenstadt v. Baird). However, since the Dobbs decision and the court's adoption of Alito's nebulous "deeply rooted in nation's history and traditions," all of these right to privacy cases are up for reconsideration.

Frozen fertilized eggs could have been considered a person at anytime in the past.

As usual your argument is ridiculous.
