I called you out because you have said the above and act like no one could have ever coached a game. Read your above bolded (i don't care if you added read in Morgan Freeman's voice)I walked away from this topic, and didn't respond to the "shaking hands - walking away", response that I received. But I'm about to walk back in.
That's the first step of ten in "Anger Management". So yeah, many of the perfect humans on here who never have a reason to become angry may not ever need to do that. To which of course I say, bull hockey.
- Walk Away. Take a breather and remove yourself from the situation that is causing you to become angry. ...
Posters who have hashed and rehashed the "unsportsmanlike conduct" of the situation? Paid"bad guys" on ESPN? I don't see any of 'em taking half the time to talk about ND's conduct.
What we have here, is a simple case of, "I'm better than Fran", and knowing the world in general at least half the posters who have communicated something to that effect know they are lying. The other half are just fooling themselves.
And I'll present my simple evidence once again. People are on here a day later STILL harping about a no harm, no foul, no suspension, no complaint from the Big Ten, action that received understanding from the opposing coach, action which Fran apologized for later, tiny blip on the radar in ND's season history of altercations with other teams...and we're supposed to believe those posters would have handled the dangers and unsportsmanlike actions of ND's players AND coaches...and would have walked right up and shook hands just because it's the polite thing to do.
Wow...what a bunch of malarkey.
It's a sad day when playing couch coach and looking for ways to criticize the guy in charge (And try to tell me there isn't a direct correlation between the 1/3rd who found that walking away was wrong, and the "usual suspects" quickest to complain about coaching and players.) is so important that ignoring a basic principle of avoiding making a tense situation worse seems the right thing to do.
I'm not disappointed in Fran. I'm disappointed with fans so quick to slam him and then not even communicate facts except those that fit their narrative. Believe me, there was a time that kind of rhetoric would be called what it was. Today, people say anything they feel like and then claim their butts are sore from the reactions. Well, sorry, but in the old days there was a little more responsibility to what a person said, and sounding dumb just to take the usual "side" wasn't normal behavior.
I know, hiding in the internet made us all invincible, so why not claim to be perfect as well?
So there.(If anyone finds this "one" to be disturbing, please go back and read it slow...try to pretend Morgan Freemon is reading it. Because that's the mood I typed it in...not the "attack and kill" tone any seem to want to believe they are reading. Just a sound, slow scolding for what in my view is silly behavior.
I have my opinion and you have yours. Difference is: i never told you that you couldn't have your opinion or what you would have done, I don't agree with what fran did but I never told you what you would have done in that situation. I know enough about myself to know that I never would have done that.
I have coached literally thousands of games and I can say with 100% confidence that I would have walked through that line after that game.
