WASHINGTON (AP) — In an effort to limit fraudulent claims, the Social Security Administration will impose tighter identity-proofing measures — which will require millions of recipients and applicants to visit agency field offices rather than interact with the agency over the phone.

Beginning March 31st, people will no longer be able to verify their identity to the SSA over the phone and those who cannot properly verify their identity over the agency's "my Social Security" online service, will be required to visit an agency field office in person to complete the verification process, agency leadership told reporters Tuesday.

I won't be surprised if this is only enforced in urban / blue areas where the right thinks all the welfare queens are living in splendor.

But IF (HUGE IF) this is carried out across the country equally, I could see it having a disproportionately large impact on the rural Trumpsters living in squalor with their Trump NFTs, Trump coins and Trumpy Bears.

And that would be a shame.

Only if the online ID check program isn't being used. i.e., new recipients trying to sign up over the phone, or anyone trying to change their bank information over the phone.

It's very reasonable. It would really be nice if people would read and comprehend actual news and facts instead of believing interpretations by folks wanting to make political points.

Have you ever done it? I think not.

You act like it’s a piece of cake. It’s not, even before all this BS.

You'd have a better point if not for the fact that the change is being made primarily to make a political point

Good

Closing 47 offices will help with this.

What kind of POS says let’s do everything we can to make it harder for people to collect benefits they paid for?

Like voter fraud. Put up all those roadblocks and inconveniences to make voting, the most fundamental right to ensure we have voting rights since there are colossal amounts of voter fraud that no one, for decades, nationally by dedicated efforts by radically target groups can find.

So, now, President Rasputin and his sidekick, the Orange Blimp reduce Social Security staff. close offices, eliminate phone access to force access at those offices, many recipients not being mobile which will require temporary loss of benefits at a minimum. Which can be devastating on individual bases.

This is what people voted for. Only in America.
