Some More News - Work From Home

Great video.

I've found that a hybrid schedule works best for me; going in on Tue/Wed or Tue/Thu. The commute is really the issue. 20 mi can actually result in 1hr each way, which is a loss of 2 hours of productivity. Conversely, he's right, though...I'll start my day (at home) around 6:30 and not finish until around 5pm thus giving the company more of my time (or at least availability). Regardless, there are lot of govt teams calls to sit through each day that allow for HBOTing regardless of location.

I always thought it was a little silly that a job could rob you of your getting ready to go to work time, driving to work time, walking into work time. It's feels like time theft to me, but I have been salary for 20 some years so it's not an issue for me. Mandatory one hour lunches turning 8 hour shifts into 9 hour shifts are also brutal for people.

I am also hybrid. Work from home, work from office, work off-site, and I pick and choose when I do all of those.

That channel does some good stuff if you get bored and want to kill time sometime. The last Elon one was fun.

Only people you can truly completely trust should work from home. I'd say 80% of the people I know that work from home abuse the hell out of it and should be in the office. It's turned into a huge joke. I'm glad companies are getting rid of it.

Opposite for me. We've got 2 guys out of 50 that should be in an office. Our team is spread out all over the country and the team is so effective we convinced the DoD to completely commercialize their NIPRNet and SIPRNet networks for all 188 Air and Space Force Bases. That R&D contract was literally a proof of concept for AT&T and we did it 100% remotely.

Commercialize SIPRNet? Hadn’t heard that.

We have a few people who clearly abuse it, but it’s also allowed for retention of people that would otherwise leave for quality of life. We’ve moved to more national teams, which has saved money on compensation for people who would need to make at least 50% more to live in LA.

My wife would leave her current job if she had to commute. She was doing an hour getting ready and two hours of commute before Covid. All so she could go into an office to do calls with people in other places.

I would much rather be in the office. Working at home gives me cabin fever damn fast, especially if the kids are home. My wife (no pic) works from home making it a further no-go for me.
