Weiskamp is above average in scoring ability and below average defensively. Was really watching his defense today.
Never seen Izzo so defeated early on in a game.
Bohannon needs to do some upper body workouts. Also the 1 hand up towards the offensive player’s head isn’t great defense.
I love C Mac’s intensity and how he gets his teammates juiced.

pattyMac played well too...

Also were they pumping in audience noise? My wife noticed this as well separately from me. Seemed too loud compared to the usual silence with squeaking shoes, cheers from bench players, etc.

Weezy really is a weak link on perimeter defense. On the plus, he’s a very good rebounder and obviously is shooting phenomenally.
Defensively he just seemed to be slow to recognize where he needs to be.
Its the only thing he doesn't do well. He is also afraid to give fouls.

After such a dominant win in a place that is usually a horror show for Iowa, I was expecting a few more positive observations.
Today, Weesy looked way better than above average on offense, and has the past few games. His defense is not great, but I would not call it below average.
Great overall game by Nunge on both ends, although he sure missed a lot of close ones in the first half.
Really solid game from Connor, who had been struggling.
JoeT played completely under control and managed 4 assists in limited time without being really aggressive.
Another solid overall performance from Keegan, who sure doesn't play like a freshman.
Worst shooting game by Luka in a few years, if not ever, but it didn't matter, which is impressive.
I hope CJ is back again soon, because we are a better team with him playing. I thought he was laboring a little when he was running in the last game, although he still made plays to win.

That and I think he lacks lateral quickness. You would think that as long as he is he would be a better defender.

I think Weezy really can't jump too high for a good athlete. Seems like on dunks he gets his hand/wrist just above the rim only. No one handed slams with elbow above the rim. Since I couldn't even touch the rim when younger, I really don't know if my thought is accurate. Comments?

That's good that he's afraid to give fouls, because like Luka, those 2 need to be on the court as much as they can be. Everybody else is expendable, replaceable to some degree. We only have 1 Luka and 1 Joe Weiskamp.

How many extra points do they award for this?

When Weezy can drain NBA-depth 3ptrs with a hand in his face, I don't think this matters. Not at.all.

Pretty sure that's only on TV, not in the arena.

Huh, weak on perimeter defense?

I don’t recall his guys ‘blowing by‘ him or pulling 3’s in his face. In terms of perimeter defense (if you can define) how would you consider him the weak link?

Totally agree. He lacks the confidence and the footwork that Luka has, so his moves are a bit more limited around the rim. Once he gets more comfortable and quits rushing the shots, he will be a consistent scorer for us. Then you add his outside shot....

But he moves more like a small forward ("more like" not exactly of course :)), which is fun to watch. With some more polish and assertiveness/confidence, he can be a beast!

We did a much better job today closing out on the 3 pt shooters. It takes effort to chase your man through the screens and we picked it up today.

I feel like he is middle of the pack on his vertical for his size. He still can stand to add 10 LBS of muscle to fight through contact and allow for more power on dunks and such.

Sure are a lot of Weesy critics in this thread. My guess is that he will on the second or third-team All B1G again this year, in a conference full of great players.

I think this game showed we can play decent to good defense, which is frustrating because evidently sometimes we just decide not to!
Like I have said before. I hate Iowa's zone and would love more man-to-man but that will depend on the other teams guards and fouls. JMO
I miss the crowds and the Cheer Leaderso_O

The Wieskamp criticisms on this board get weirder by the day.

^ This 1000%. It truly makes no sense. The kid is playing some of the best BB in the BIG (not to mention he is one of the NICEST guys you will ever meet) and people still find ways to pick apart his game. I know we all want Joe back for his Sr season....but he is getting interest already from scouts. IF.....he continues to play the way he did at MSU he is going to have a great opportunity to go Pro....and I will root like heck for him.

yeah, it was kind of weird though on my 5.1 surround - almost came through like a white noise of sorts...
