I’d rather bet a few dollars on something and be lose it than many other activities people spend money on.

OP has obviously never won $1000 on a $10, 8-way parlay.

That's my son. He makes one or two $5 parlay bets every week hoping for a big win. In the end, he loses about a hundred bucks each year but has a lot of fun - especially on those weeks when it's close.
