I'm going to stay positive. Hopefully we look back on this night and say, "That's the night they rallied around each other and turned it all around." There is work to be done but obviously a lot of it is mental. Some of these guys just need to pull the trigger and some just need to finish. Hopefully the sting tonight will light a fire.
Go Hawks!

I admire your optimism, Josey. Unfortunately, I think tonight's meet was pretty revealing of what we actually have. It's very late in the season to be converting Honda Accords into Corvettes. I don't see much of an overhaul happening in 3 weeks. Sure hope you're right.

I slipped once in Tae Kwon Do. Tweaked the knee a bit in doing so.

Completely blew 2/4 ligaments a few weeks later because it was weakened.

Just a thought.

Yeah but if you have ten Honda accords that can get you somewhere. We have a couple geos.

I did not get to watch, had to work. looking at the scores we only lost one match that we were favored to win correct.my concern is stoll is he alright, that's only reason I came on today. I knew the doom and gloom crowd will have taken over by now so I click on most positive thread I could find, so if anyone has information about sam I would appreciate it. the rest of you go ahead and jump.

Here's the problem. With three questionable weights and nobody favored to be champion, we were already looking at zero margin of error. Everything had to go just right this season. So let's break it down:

  • Gilman, Clark, Sorenson, Burak all had to continue to be studs and look like they could be competitive for the top of the podium. Gilman has been great, the others have been satisfactory. They will all score good points and Nationals, but nothing indicates they'll bring bonus points. We held serve.

  • 141, 157, 165 we needed one of these weights to have a breakthrough. None of them have. And so we're behind the eight-ball.

  • Stoll needed to look like a guy who could be on the podium. He has done that -- which is great. But it's just holding serve; and now he might be injured.

  • Meyer and Brooks needed to have good seasons and be solid AA's. Each of them, unfortunately, has been on a downward spiral. Meyer barely beat a guy who had lost six straight matches! So we're even further behind the eight-ball.
Last night solidified that none of our three holes are going to be filled, solidified that Meyer and Brooks are not going to tear things up at Nationals, and created a big question mark with Stoll's health. So, imo, it was a huge disaster of an meet.

The problem is that we are left saying this about a late season dual EVERY year the last half dozen years: Missouri, Ohio State, Penn State, Missouri (again), Minnesota, Illinois, etc. At some point we have to accept that these are less like wakeup calls and more like canaries in the coal mine.

Very well put, art. But you should never allow yourself to be disappointed or express that disappointment. It's all sunshine and rainbows, art. Come on -- you know that!;)

Hey I was disappointed, the only thing I was glad about was I was too tired to drive up and watch it live. It's crushing. I keep things in perspective and no matter what I felt as a fan it is 1000 times harder on the coaches and wrestlers that put it on the line.
Now I am serious when I say a slip can prevent a fall. The Iowa wrestling program slipped and were down. I dont believe for a second they don't have a chance to come back and have a great Big Ten and nationals. In fact, I'm counting on it. I didn't make any excuses and I'm not all sunshine and roses but I choose to believe our guys are going to get back up and fight.

Good post - haters gotta hate and now they can vent. There are a lot of Hawk fans who see some things they may not be happy with but can discuss it / make their points in a constructive way. Others who have some sense of entitlement due to the Gable dynasty don't realize things are different (and Gable had some challenges also) and will say or make up (pretty pathetic) things that are total bs.

I'm all in with eyes wide open understanding some changes are needed but 2 of my concerns (S&C and recruiting) seem to be changing so I'm optimistic. Some may say I'm sipping the Kool-aid but I think I've got a undervalued stock. I will enjoy the ride in IC and the big Apple supporting this team - thankfully the scoreboard at this time has the Hawks tied for first at both events.

I'm going to keep guzzling the kool aid the Brands boys and M* and company are serving, you can't ask for harder working more dedicated people. If the effort and intensity wasn't there then I would question things a lot more. I'm a fan who has coached on a very low level compared to these guys but I think it gives an insight and an understanding of everything your trying to do does not always work out and some things are out of your control. This staff takes the blame for when things go wrong and are doing what they can to get another title. I also have never said a bad word about a football coach I really admire and respect and he came out looking pretty good this season.
GO HAWKS!

In reality we can pray for some divine intervention. In my experience that doesn't happen. I think if we look at the whole. From a realistic standpoint Iowa is on level or above everyone, but PSU. Our studs are a point or two winning with the exception of G man. Their studs are pinning National Champs!!!!!!! It is now a couple of weeks from the BIGs and we don't even have a 141 wrestler established???.

Here's the thing PSU is down at this weight also. We could have picked up some ground on them and we don't even have a candidate at the spot. 165 and 184 are the same thing PSU is weak but our 184 lber is struggling. We have to be able to beat PSU at their weak weights and we are not!!!!! We can't beat the studs they are putting on the mat. We can beat the scrubs they are putting on the mat.
