CY-HAWK GRADES

The portal is actually recruiting as well. You're just recruiting experienced wrestlers and not high school kids. Ech, Chittum, Bockman and Carroll are all transfers without them they definitely drop more than 1 spot. The plan is recruit high school kids and the portal. Why would you only do one
Add in Ayala and PK to their lineup if illegal contact and poaching by a HC is on the up and up….

No not at all saying that but the fact is, Iowa could afford to bring in two number 1 ranked transfers and two top 5s.
If you take transfers out of our lineup, we go from #2 national contenders to maybe #6?
The unusual log jam of talent in the upper middle weights would help any drop off there. But you still don’t have anything in the first half of the lineup outside of Ayala.
Isu could have their transfers disappear and only drop down 1 ranking spot.
We need to plan better so we’re not so reliant on transfers
What everyone above is saying is. 1) The new transfer portal/NIL mess is now a reality! 2) IOWA is NOT the only team using it and benefiting from it.

3) what this means is, you can not just look at what we are doing without looking at the entire picture. TnT are doing what they are doing because it is now a part of the game. IF this was not the "new POS NCAA" then not only would the HAWKS team look different, but so would everyone else!!!

Who knows what our team would look like right now if we went back to the way it was before this whole fiasco started?

The transfer portal has never been a thing like it is now.

relevant because without nil and wide open transfer portal.

49,57, 65, and 97 are holes and we lose against Ia St
Without the portal we have:

165 PK
174 Brands
184 AF/Gabe
197 Glazier
285 BK

Not much of a drop off.

Actually Caleb would've probably got bonus over whoever he faced since Ech transferred in after getting kicked out of Ohio State for choking his wife.
Sandfors take is terrible. Iowa State had transfers at 57, 65, 84, and 97. You can't make this shit up .
Also at 74

A few things to take into consideration
1) Kale is coming off of an injury and cutting a lot of weight, yes he could be better but he is giving everything he has. Will be Deluca next year.
2) Ryder is cutting more weight than anybody on the team he also had zero matches last year as well. He should be at 149 and will be next year.

165: C
174: A-/B+
184: A-
197: A barring an injury I just don’t see anyone beating him. Probably would have said the same for Teemer.
Hwt: C

I can’t believe how unlucky the Hawks are. Teemer was a finalist and now we have a Qualifier who might sneak out a win. Don’t know if Teemer has a medical option but I would seriously consider it if I were him.
It is a hamstring injury, so anywhere between three and eight weeks, depending on severity. He will wrestle in January...

I like his wishful thinking and am glad we finally unleashed Angelo! Love it!! Based on what I saw Friday, barring injuries I don’t see where Nelson can fit into a starting role no matter how much I was hoping for a firestorm return by him.

I would love nothing more than for in state kids to be the best of the best but unfortunately that hasn't been the case most of the time. Our recruiting needs to reflect that fact until it changes.
Nobody wants to hear this…. But Iowa is really diluting the talent pool with current set up, imo. Iowa crowns 42 state champs every years. I think it should be 14 or 28 at most. I’d like to know who the 14 best wrestlers in the state are.

Yeah.......I get it, but I also get why we don't. There is a ton of disparity between the classes with exception of a couple schools here and there. I do agree though. It'd be nice to know who the top dog is and see a Tanner Sloan dog walk the bigger classes.

I’d be happy if the tradition became the top three (1A-3A) at every weight competing for best in state. But it also sounds like there’s been a bunch of forfeits in 1A duals lately due to having trouble fielding whole teams. Consolidation might possibly be in order to remain viable?

Not talking accolades.
Star power/ name recognition.
Angelo will get a lot of views. Love em or hate em, the Ferraris’ have what Gable Stevenson wishes he had, charisma
Really hard to believe Ferrari will have better star power than Spencer. Star power is a positive. He might end up with more name recognition, but 0 chance in an all positive sense. Spencer all class and we know what his wattage is. Ferrari still TBD and does hold the chance of succumbing to the couple of strands of stupid DNA he has from that wacko gene pool.

I think he just might be talking about results on the mat. That’s all. And it should be fair and easy enough to quantify. And I’m willing to stop there.

Well he has been a part of the family for 19 years and no problems yet. TNT and known for being pretty good at keeping guys on the straight and narrow, so I say there is a pretty good chance he has no big issues while he is here. Let’s not do guilty by association thing.
