John Taylor is a really underrated bass player. There are actually quite a few 80s new wave bands that had really good bassists. Level 42 (Mark King is a legend), Kajagoogoo (Nick Beggs), Simple Minds (Derek Forbes) all had some great bass lines that you don't notice, but man, they add a ton of groove to their music.

As an aside, as a bassist while in HS, I really wish I'd paid more attention to these guys then.
