Sources: Iowa athletic director Gary Barta is expected to announce his retirement.

Driven away by the Ferrari family. Couldn't take it anymore.
I was thinking maybe the opposite... approving Ferraris as a final official act of office to shield the future AD from any culpability AND freeing AD from ties to Brands current contract, if a different direction is deemed warranted.

But he probably just wants to spend more time with family (i.e. will give a standard reason).

Does this put extra pressure on Tom now that he'll likely have a new AD to please? Could also be the opposite if the new AD doesn't care that much about wrestling.

How do we feel about this (good, bad, ambivalent, indifferent) with respect to Iowa Wrestling and its relationship to its AD?

Too early for Spencer Lee to apply? 😉

I know some PSU supporters weren't too big on their former AD, and welcomed the recent change.

I think most Hawkeye fans agree that Gary Barta is absolutely awful for the university. Should've been fired years ago.

I hope the University of Iowa hires an AD that cares a lot about wrestling. I would be very disappointed if they hired one that didn't care much.

I find it hard to imagine that a new AD would not support Iowa wrestling, given their success and ability to pack Carver. It would be a travesty to disregard the only sport where Iowa has a historical track record. I would imagine wrestling support is safe. Wouldn’t be so quick to say the same about our football and round ball (mens) coaches.

Beth Goetz will likely be named interim AD-- and I think very, very strong chance she will be named AD after a "nationwide" search.

I have a good friend who is on Ball States board--he said she is a pro, who will do a great job.

I also know our Wrestling staff thinks highly of her.

Au' Contraire, I beg to differ. Please explain.

You serious? You follow Iowa sports and Iowa legal news?

Just go read his wiki page for starters and dig into the controversies section. He has cost the university and Iowa taxpayers a lot of money through his incompetence.

His worst grievance is keeping Brian Ferentz around and the nepotism in the football program.

Athletic department legal issue(s); a forced errors, the ball was not returnable.
Brian Ferentz; in totality, really nothing more than a foot-fault.

The only thing that really upset me about Barta is he let Doyle be the sacrificial lamb when an ex-player wasn't good enough to get a NFL paycheck and threw crap at the football program to get his payday. That was BS. Our tax dollars get pissed away every day at way larger amounts than anything the University paid out. Pretty much peanuts.

That's the only thing that upset you about Barta? Wild take.

Some of you are living a different reality.

Who F ing cares.
The Doyle deal really pissed me off.
There were some other things that kind of upset me.
Is that better?
I was defending your usage, as it could reasonably be commonly understood. So I had no issue with it. I nevertheless found vodka's misinterpretation humorous. Regardless, I appreciate your clarification.

Wouldn't be surprised if that was the plan all along when they hired her from Ball State.

I agree Doyle was a sacrificial lamb to appease the masses at the point in time the cut him. The rhabdo episode was when he should have been cut. There were plenty of S&C coaches at bigger programs making less than him that didn't send their athletes to the hospital. It's been years since "bullies of the big 10" was reality.

Barta has a laundry list of crap that should have got him canned log ago.

You really must be irate at Kirk then for allowing his guy to be thrown under the bus if he really did nothing wrong. We all know if Kirk stood up for his old friend he would still be around like Brian is
