Spencer interview w/ Jersey Jerry & KBnoswag of Barstool

great interview, it was real and spencer does a great job of addressing the scrutiny, pressure and haters. one of the best interviews i have seen. props to jerry and kyle. hope they do a lot more of these.

Agreed. They asked what they can do to grow the sport. More interviews like this would be a great start. Granted now that Spencer is done he can talk more freely than he might have six months ago, so that made it a better interview.

He was finally able to cut loose a little and say what was on his mind.
I was one of those guys who thought something was wrong….shame on me.

If he gets right physically, watch out.
He will be a possessed man.

Some of us have speculated as much on Ferrari. It hasn’t been passing the sniff test.
Personally, I think there has been contact with all of the Ferrari's. Not sure Spencer would be privy to every single recruiting detail. It's been said "Morningstar becomes like a member of the family" and if they're going as hard after Angelo as we think they are, then there is absolutely a relationship being formed with the family. I'm thinking the brothers are included on some level, M* follows them all on social media.

Now there is definitely room for debate as to whether the Anthony situation is a case of him just committing 'on a whim' so to speak or if it's a 'silent partnership' type situation - pending the charges/legal situations are resolved with him and AJ.

Well, on the one hand he said he wasn’t hurt. On the other hand he says he’s not healthy so he’s mulling over the decision to wrestle in the open.

Might be true. But this is another data point that says this isn’t as straightforward as many thought.

True.
His humility is what was so impressive. By asking/telling people to give Ramos credit where credit is due, to stop making excuses for him. He simply owned up to getting beat.
He had an opportunity to face his critics and let them know just how ludicrous they were.
Either way, I won’t be surprised with his decision to compete in the open.

Yes, he plainly states that he MEDICALLY forfeited. And plainly stated "I am NOT healthy." And health is a major decision on whether he will enter the open. And it's certainly not because something recently happened at practice because he has not wrestled since he lost.

What he stated is that he didn't lose because he was injured, but that's not the same as saying he is not injured. He just wants people to know he didn't lose because of whatever not healthy/injury he has. He's a man of his word, "Excuses are for wusses."

Not healthy= not 100%, still not recovered from the repairs to previous injuries.

Not hurt= not injured beyond what had already occurred and been repaired.

He hasn't been healthy all season but didn't get hurt. Not being healthy has reduced his abilities and effectiveness. Other than saying he felt kinda weird in the match he is saying Ramos beat him. He didn't beat a fully healthy Spencer but he beat the version that currently exists and that was competing this season.

I would opine they are trying to figure out whether he’ll have the stamina needed to win and making sure he is mentally back to the “what did I just do” mindset.

There are good times ahead for Spencer. In more ways than one.

But there is a fine line between a reason and an excuse. Spencer refuses to use his injury as an excuse. Which is admirable. A reasonable observer, however, can still consider the lingering injury to be the primary reason he lost.

I honestly didn’t feel he was going to beat Glory in the finals. Not because Glory is better, but because Lee isn’t 100%. Reason or excuse? It’s just semantics.

he talks about the difficulty of his cut, not because he’s big, but because he can’t train the way other guys do so he has to limit his nutrition. tough way to do it.
Yes, and from what I gathered he has had to do this for a couple years and it was frustrating as hell for him. He said he was sick of not being able to eat and he couldn't train so weight control was miserable for him basically. Really had to make the last couple years a grind and now he is glad to move on from college wrestling to freestyle. Also said many times the constant nagging by people about what was wrong or if he was hurt every time he didn't tech or pin every guy he wrestled was really getting old as well. I think we saw a little chippier (is that a word) Spencer this year because he was frustrated and ready to move on from college folkstyle wrestling. Getting number 4 was the only reason he stuck around the last 2 years is what I gathered. Great interview and glad to see he is moving on from his loss. Has to be a real kick to the nuts for him after describing what the last two years were like for him. He is always so humble and respectful of his opponents.

Spencer explained what happened, what it was like and hopefully in the future, we get to see what it’s like now.
He was very adamant about Ramos getting credit.
Congratulations Matt Ramos you came ready and prepared.

I wonder if he spends time in the pool? Swimming is so much better than running. You don’t have the impact on the body and you use every muscle in your body. I have no clue if swimming can be used as rehab from torn ACL’s? In Max’s interview, I believe he said he and Warner spent more time in the pool?

He was pretty candid and frustrated about officiating as well…..

Its refreshing to hear spencer talk openly about the pressure. I remember clearly when Glory got teched and everyone on the boards said "man he looked great getting teched".

As others have mentioned he's still dealing with some stuff. If you're reading this spence - stop looking at the comments and the boards and the chat. the internet is a cesspool of armchair quarterbacks that loves to put anyone that experiences success down.

last - absolutely loved the F bomb at the end

Totally agree. He pretty incessantly said stuff like this throughout the entire interview. He's going to have let that go and have realistic expectations. Cesspool people will say cesspool things. Dogs are going to crap in the yard. It's what they do. Being disappointed or mad at them is a waste of time and emotionally draining. I mean he's even saying he doesn't think he will ever forgive the people for saying things about his mother. Let it go. Easy to say, but hard to do.

Plain and simple it’s his Mother. He was defending her as he should.
Acceptance doesn’t mean approval. It is possible to let things like this go, however, they stay in your head and come back from time time.
He has the right to vent, let him have his moment to do so. He might use it as motivation among many other things.

I wonder about his training/rehab work as well. What has he tried hasn’t tried etc. does he have a supplement regimen like glucosamine for his bad joints.

Agreed. Hopefully the interview was cathartic, versus what will be endemic.
