maybe I have missed alot of discusion on him but after reading about this guy I wonder how did we end up with him. A California kid that had some great numbers and broke some records of a pro QB. Just thinking that this guy is making a big move going from Cali to Iowa. I know we have some others but it has been some time - like Hayden's era.

Petras had been committed to Oregon State. They had staff turnover. Some other West coast schools offered during the process. KOK had Petras on his radar for some time and then moved in with a strong pitch late in the cycle, to get Spencers attention, knowing the coaching situation was in flux at osu.
Petras had a decent Junior campaign and a Great senior year. KOK...effing guru.

Definately Ken O'Keefe..... Coming out of High School and getting to be taught by a guy who was a QB Coach in the NFL is a huge factor.... Most colleges can say all they want that they can get you ready for the NFL, but when O'Keefe tells a QB he can prepare you for the Big Leagues, you know that he can....

Does KOK have other recruiting duties or is he mainly tasked with finding, evaluating, and landing QBs?

Ken O'Keefe. Pure and simple. The guy that some folks wanted run out of town at one time has done amazing recruiting work since come back to Iowa.
I think Ken is a great QB coach as well

Remember fireKenOkeefe.com ? Well, he eventually left and our offense went in the tank. Now he is back. Now look at our offense.

And don't forget that he is mentoring Brian Ferentz; that is huge imo

KOK coming back is a big plus, and I think it helps that Iowa's last two starting QB's are both on NFL rosters. Kyle Shanahan said the reason he drafted CJ was because he played in a pro style offense, and was ready to play on day one while spread QB's had to take a season just to learn play action, and how to read defenses. To me, that is a huge selling point, not that KOK is using it. Max Duggan is going to be able to throw the ball all over the field in at TCU, but will not be taught the basic skills he needs to be a successful NFL QB.

And will likely never see the NFL.

Speaking of Duggan, I read an article on him yesterday about a camp or maybe 7 v 7 thing where he was rated the 10th best QB out of 12. Didnt impress the writer much at all.

Your probably talking about the opening, where they only invite the best of the best. I would take the 12th guy on that list.

That's cuz people like yourself will never have the courage to state where the real problem is on offense. So they have to vent toward the fall guy.

I'd go with Brian all day over KOK in the OC role right now. I will also reserve judgment on KOK's return performance until Stanley's progress has been measured this year. He's recruited, what, 4 kids so far? Granted they all look pretty good, but let's have them take a snap before we declare KOK to be some sort of recruiting dynamo.
