The quick tempo shorter time between plays fixed Iowa's offensive problems. The lineman don't get stiff at the line of scrimmage which can happen if you weigh 300 pounds, the defense does not have time to get their breath, and Stanley likes it. Its not always the play you call, but when you get it
off the line of scrimmage. It energizes the team.

I mostly agree. Using it intermittently adds an element of surprise. Most importantly, it prevents the opponent from making substitutions. Stanley appears more comfortable at a quicker pace.

I boxed as a teenager. In boxing, its known as a flurry and my coaches taught it as a tactic to overwhelm and confuse the opponent. I like that Brian is using it intermittently - that's where it can have the most effect.

I also think that the quick tempo possessions was a dress rehearsal for what Ferentz is planning for Wisconsin...… hopefully with a couple of new wrinkles.

UNI fixed Iowa's offensive problems. Lol.

Seriously, though, I agree changing tempo was helpful. It's easy to forget defenses can get into a rhythm too. I also saw BF breaking tendencies and going to the play action more on 1st Down. I think he called a good game.

I think the biggest surprise in terms of concerns has been Nate Stanley. I still like Stanley and think he gives Iowa the best chance to be successful, but he has been wildly erratic and inconsistent on shorter throws so far this season. Ironically, the major concern with him last season was overthrowing the deep ball, and he has looked outstanding this year putting touch on fade routes and deep flag routes. So, I think the short answer is Stanley has been thinking too much and just needs to relax and go play.

In short, I'm optimistic Iowa's offense will be improved and average in the B1G Ten. An average offense coupled with that Iowa defense is going to win a lot of games this year.

At the game I noticed when Stanely has a set play and can go to his first target, he can drop it in from anywhere. When he has to leave the pocket or start looking through his progression, he gets into trouble. If there is one thing Stanely needs to work on, it is staying calm in the pocket when his primary route is covered up.

Yes. Spot on.

It's almost like he panicks and starts to tense up, which is probably why he shortarms a lot of shorter throws. He just needs to relax and go play.

It certainly did seem to help. I'm not prepared to say the offense is "fixed" yet but they looked much better.
Agreed. An FCS team compared to Wisconsin are two different worlds. While Nate looked better and his completion %/yardage were his best since Ohio St., his ball placement at times (at the feet) makes one scratch their head. Against far better teams than UNI he cannot afford to miss those throws The interception, well.......just can't happen like that. Liked the aggressive play calling and tempo. Hope it is not a one game and done. Wisconsin game will boil down to keeping Taylor in check and the play of Render and the two OGs.
