The Mike sets the defensive alignment. As bad as Jones was during the play he was worse pre-snap.

Probably the best thing Hockaday did was get the line and Mike and Will positions set before the snap. DL play went up significantly with him calling the defense.

Hockaday was in better position and at least didn't run himself out of the play or into a mess of traffic as much.
It's so important for the mlb to be in the right spot on the field, especially against the runs up the middle. Good thing that Iowa is above average at safety. I think they will be counted on to make up for what is lacking at lb.
