he is doing what a PG is supposed to do. to me a Elite PG directs the team and get the ball to the teams scorers and that is exactly what he has done,

Man, can we move on from the Mike Gesell posts. The team is ranked number five and he's started every game since his freshmen year. Fran starts him and Fran knows what he's doing. I'm good with that. He doesn't need to score...he needs to play great defense (he does), play physical with the opposing point guard (he does), distribute the basketball (he does), and not turn it over (he doesn't). It's also great that he can penetrate and finish when he needs to. No one knows the future here...so predicting that he's going to cost us a game by missing free throws or turning it over, is non-sense. He hasn't cost us a game all year. Has he struggled and has his shot looked ugly (see Penn State)...yes...but it's in the context of a blow out game.

I hope none of his family reads this crap. Honestly, give him a rest already.

MIke Gesell has been a great Hawkeye by any metric. He will finish with over 1,000 points, Top 5 in all time assists at Iowa, and has been instrumental in getting this program to where it is today. Anybody who disagrees with any of this has not been paying attention. I love Mike Gesell and boy are we going to miss him next year.

excellent post ... it is truly amazing how this team can be at this point of the season where it is at ... and we read post after post about how un-elite MG is. Wait til we lose the next game.....
