Stay Classy New Jersey wrestling fans

I worked a booster club event for youth wrestling. Never again. What a shit show of humanity.
kids that were 6 and under cutting weight. You knew they were when you listened to their conversations about when and what they could eat.
The crying and begging from kids and parent alike. kicking out parents that couldn't stay off the mat or stop yell at their kid or the other kid.
No sport if full of perfect parents but wrestling at that age seems to be a little to full of idiots.

Yeah, there are terrible parents across the board. When I was in college at Iowa, I officiated a youth bball tournament in Lone Tree. Parents were assholes

The parents are the ones who need to be cutting weight. Not the kids.

I'm hopeful that at least the weight cutting garbage will die out relatively soon. From what I understand there has been somewhat of a change of philosophy on the subject that has yet to make it's way through all levels.

There has been a change for the better. However, you will never be able to take weight cutting out of wrestling.

any rhyme with -ance?

Yup, there was another couples families, related by marriage i believe, there at the time that were pretty fiesty as well. I've spent a small amount of time with a couple of them years later and have nothing but nice things to say about them. They were just orny and competitive SOB's when it came to wrestling.

TBH, I kinda like the fire even if it is a bit trashy.

My senior year in high school we usually had 3 wrestling meets/tournaments a week. I only ate on those days.

I remember the feeling. I didn't cut senior year but dropped about 16 as a freshmen to get to 119 and into the lineup. That was as low as I could go after testing without a note from the doctor and in the last year we had morning weigh-ins. I grew throughout the year and struggled after winter break even with the +1.
It sucked and I think that now I would tell my kids to just wrestle JV and build some confidence, but it was a different era.

The first Thanksgiving after you stop wrestling almost makes it worth it.

I graduated in the early 90s. There were, unfortunately, zero rules. I came out of football at 138lbs and size 28 jeans and cut to 112lbs.

You could have stopped at New Jersey.
I was going to say the same thing.

I officiate wrestling, baseball and football and the parents really aren't much different. The biggest differences are in wrestling the matches are only a few minutes long and then folks move on, whereas in baseball and football it is more of a build up or slow burn. The other main difference is in youth wrestling the.parents are right on top of you the official and the opposing parent. On baseball and football, they are usually behind a fence or up in the stands and there is some separation

I help out with a youth wrestling program in the Des Moines area. Parents have become toxic. I about snapped more times than I want to admit for opposing parents yelling crap at the wrestlers I was coaching. I couldn't imagine officiating.

You should coach High school Wrestling during Sectional/Districts. When my kid would knock out a wrestler, the parents would come unglued. I had soda/popcorn/purses/chairs thrown at me and was tackled once. Thank God the started putting police officers mat side towards the end of my coaching days.

Not sure I believe you actually coach.

Why are people so stupid and angry?

Also, why do so many “articles” have to have social media comments and replies in them?

That’s almost as annoying as adults fighting at youth sporting events.
