Stay Classy Wisconsin

The worst treatment - Wisconsin
By far!!

Good treatment - Northwestern and Penn State.

Re Wisconsin.: not just verbal abuse and harassment, but conceited fans in general. I hope Nebby stomps them.

59-0 Wisky.

We all have our own experiences with opposing fan bases that influence our experiences, but here's what I've encountered at the other Big Ten stadiums I've been to (includes inside the stadium and tailgating):

Best treatment: Nebraska, Purdue

Good treatment: Illinois (football only--basketball is a completely different story), Indiana

Ok treatment: Michigan State, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State

Poor: Northwestern

Completely classless: Wisconsin. Every time.

First time.
Long Time.

First time in CR Saturday with a game being played. Took a buddy who grew up in Cali and had never been to a college football game.
We could not have been treated nicer. Walked two miles to the game, and two miles back to the car without incident. In fact, saw a ton of Iowa fans, said "Go Hawks" to every one within earshot and not one comment from a Badger fan.
I've been to Kinnick North several times (have not been to new stadium) CR, Big House, Ohio Stadium and about a half dozen trips to Beaver Stadium, and have not had one incident with a host fan base. Not one.
Probably just lucky with a healthy dose of not walking around talking shiat.

Certainly terrible to hear about any 15 year old being sucker-punched before, during or after a game. Like many have stated, my guess is that incidents are rare.

Surprised to hear the positive reviews of Illini football fans, as their basketball fans are a different story. And I'll save that for hoops season.

really? I've been there three times and I would say it's one of the worst in the B10
I was never more embarrassed/ashamed as I was a few years ago sitting in the South End Zone at Kinnick when (2) 20 something's harassed the hell out of a Wisky couple in their 50's (sitting by themselves), next to me and my 7 year old. I asked them politely twice to stop... But I then got made fun of and eventually had their soda running down my back. After that, two other Hawk fans got security there to escort the idiots out.
The rest of the folks in the area, and myself
made sure, the two elderly Wisky fans enjoyed the rest of their time at the game.

Something like this crops up at Wisconsin every single year. If not us then someone else. They are a scumbag fan base and probably one of the worst road trips in the conference. Michigan State is usually worse though.

I have stood up for a Michigan and Wisconsin fan, who were about to get assaulted. In fact the Iowa fan and myself did turn into an altercation. But that is just me. I wont watch innocent people be attacked over a football game. Crazy I know, huh.

You are amazing. Glad to know you will be there when it matters most.

Went to 4 Wisconsin games in late 60's and early to the late 70's. Fans were pretty friendly especially if u got drunk with them. Also went to a Iowa- Wisconsin basketball game in Madison with the same results. Things may of changed with the passing of time.

Probably the worse fans is when I went to an Indiana-Iowa game in Bloomington. Their fans threw beer cans at our car as we left the parking lot.

I've also seen bad fans at Iowa games. My nephew being one of them. He was yelling f**k Blue at some Michigan fans while walking to the stadium before a Iowa-Michigan game. I grabbed him by the back of the neck a told him to shut-up before I kick the sh*t out of him. Seem to work.

Next fall highway 151 will be littered with fast food packaging, beer cans, and other trash as the Badgers descend on Iowa City. They not only throw stuff out of their cars, but they LOVE to throw it at cars with anything Hawkeye in or on them. My brother's wife is from a huge badger family. I have given up trying to rationally or politely talk about the rivalry with any of them. The two worst offenders are her 78 year-old mother and her 10-year-old nephew.

LOL. Better cut off their Iowa sports tickets. Need to be on alert on February 24th also when Bo and the Badgers make the trip down 151.
There might be less fast food trash if you can successfully convert the sister in law's family to eating Maidrites once they cross the Dubuque bridge.

A few fan experiences for me, both at Kinnick and on the road.

At Wisconsin:
The first time I went there I was with my wife (GF at the time, no pics) and every time we clapped, cheered, or anything for a good Iowa play, the people around us told us to sit down and shut up. One guy shoved me. I was not trash talking, just clapping and high fiving my GF after an iowa score. There were threats of increased violence, but none came.

A few years later, after the game, we had lost, I was walking with my friends back to the car. I was lagging about 10 yards behind the group, quietly rehashing the game when a guy ran across the street, grabbed my lapel, pulled me up to his face and screamed "I'm gonna kick your effing ass.". Fortunately my friends heard it, turned back and the dude scrambled when he realized it wasn't just him and me (he was well over 6', I'm about 5'7").

At Minny:
"Who hates Iowa" the instant my foot crossed the threshold of "The Library", a bar there. People kept taking my Iowa hat and throwing it on the dance floor..stupid crap like that. I basically ignored it. One of the people I was with got in a fight, but knowing him, he probably earned it. At the game, we were abused verbally the whole game, but I have to admit, we were sitting in the minny student section (a dipwad co-worker/minny alum didn't tell us the tickets were in the student section when he said he could get tickets for our group).

jNW
We had fun there. Iowa owned pretty much every lot. At the game, I was harassed by the jNW fans, but nothing bad.

Illinois
This was last year...we had a blast and Ilinois fans were pretty non-descript.

Kinnick
We had a large group of Wisconsin fans in the south endzone that were literally trying to get a fight started. The were complete arseholes.

I sat in the visitor section for a PSU game (2010). The PSU fans were great....plenty of good natured ribbing both ways, but we all had a good time.

Dental lot in '09...drunk Iowa fans throws a beer at a Michigan fan as he was walking by their tailgate. Other Iowa fans grabbed him and gave him a pounding. MIchigan fan was grateful for the support.

I remember years back, the team bus getting egged as they were traveling back through southern WI after the game. I think this was prior to Hwy. 151 being four lane all the way to Madison.

and how many years ago has it been since you were in Madison and personally experienced these types of incidents?

Uh, this year. 15 year old kid got punched by a Wisconsin adult. Are you going on record that the published police report was something that happened in the 70s and not in 2015?

I am well aware that the punch incident involving the 15 year old youth took place this past Saturday.
My question concerned the rainbow of incidents alluded to by Bean, as to how many of those he personally witnessed and when.

When we played Wisconsin in the late 90's I remember a couple badger fans in our student section. I saw an Iowa student piss in a cup and throw it on them. Low class fans in every stadium.

Yuk. Beer or schnapps is one thing, cat urine is quite another.

Never been to a game there, but from what I understand, this is pretty extraordinary as most visiting fans say they love games in Madison.

Then you should go there. I've been there 8 times and they can be really nasty. Several years ago the Madison newspaper had an article about how bad their own fans had become towards opposing fans. It was a big enough deal that their own newspaper called out their own fans.

I made my final trip in 2007. After UW scored, a guy intentionally screamed in my ear from about an inch away. I asked him what that was for and he just looked at me with a stupid F'n look. I could have gotten into a fight right then and there but when your in a sea of red, with everyone certain to back up his side of the events, it would have been sure trip to jail for me. No win situation.

UW fans as a collective whole, are not good fans.

Been to many games in Madison. Never been impressed with how many of their fans act. It's easy to act classy when you win. Losing doesn't build character, it reveals it.

It wasn't "a couple of Badger fans" it was more like 30. I still don't know how they all got those student tickets. They were extremely obnoxious the whole game. That being said, no one deserves getting pee thrown on them.

Sitting in a student section has its own unique issues, even at "home".:) I have sat with the students at CR and Kinnick. Other than a few incidences of gross intoxication, I had no problems. I expect some competitive banter when at Kinnick. When I am not willing to deal with it, I will stay at home.
Saw some Iowa students in the CR student section. They seem to be getting along pretty well.
