We bought 4 Rose Bowl tickets from Stubhub on Sunday around 1PM, an hour before they announced the bowls. We got tickets for $350 a piece. I figured prices would skyrocket after the official announcement came out so we took a chance and bought them. Feeling awesome about going to Pasadena an hour later we started booking our flight, getting a hotel, renting a car... all that jazz. Fast forward to Wednesday. I got done deer hunting in the afternoon and had a voicemail from Stubhub saying the seller was unable to supply the tickets we purchased. Oh Sh*t. Called Stubhub back and the lady couldn't do anything for us because ticket prices were 3-4x what we paid and her supervisor would have to approve getting us new tickets.

Called back this morning (Thursday) and my wife talked to a supervisor at Stubhub. He was awesome about the whole situation, was very apologetic, and expained the whole situation. We ended up getting 4 seats together a few rows closer to the action. Stubhub was asking $930 a piece for our new seats. We are not responsible for a dime more than we paid and they are going to put a rush on the tickets to get them to us ASAP.

The seller took the 4 tickets we bought from him and put them back on Stubhub hoping to get more than $350 a piece. He resold our tickets for $500 a piece so he thought he was getting an extra $600 by screwing us out of tickets. However, since he was stupid and used Stubhub to sell them again, Stubhub has a paper trail of what he did. The seller will be on the hook for the difference between our new tickets and old tickets. So in the end he cost himself $1700 by trying to game the system.

Kuddos to Stubhub for providing top notch customer service and making this right!

If the seller has the actual tickets he'll probably scalp them outside of the stadium for $500.

The seller has already resold them again on Stubhub for $500 and they have shipped to the new buyer. If he hadn't shipped the tickets to the new buyer yet, Stubhub would have sent them to us and got different tickets for the buyers that bought them for $500.

I think Colonel Homer is suggesting he'll sell the actual hard tickets (that won't get anybody into the stadium) the day of the game and scam somebody that way.

So Stubhub buys tickets at market price and then eats the difference?

They really must be overcharging on their fees, but good for them here.

I bought my tickets on 11/20. Noticed that my tickets are not suppose to ship no later than 12/30. Called them and said "WTH? Why can't the tickets that I ordered be here before the 30th?" They said that the seller won't have the tickets in hand until the 12/25. This has me concerned. Asked them if there wasn't a way to speed up this process and she said no, the seller set the date. And that they will give me free overnight. We are leaving 12/29. The whole thing has me sweating bullets.

In some cases I think Stubhub would have to simply eat the costs. Most of the time the price differences aren't going to be $600 like they are for this years Rose Bowl. Most times they probably don't lose much. In this case it made it sound like Stubhub is going to go after the seller of the tickets because he violated their terms and conditions and recoup their losses by charging him/her.

You should be OK. Stubhub will be all over them to ship the tickets immediately and overnight. I had the same concerns with the PGA this year, Had tickets in hand 5 days before the "no later than" date

The seller who did not produce the tickets will be charged for the cost of the replacement tickets. It will not cost stubhub anything. That is why they require a credit card when you sell tickets.

I've never had issues with stubhub to date ( hope it doesnt happen), but from all accounts they seem to make sure you get into the event regardless.

Doesn't stubhub "confirm" that your tickets are real before posting, as in reprints the barcode? Or is that just specific events?

For what it's worth, Ive used vivid seats a few times and it's been a good experience. They answer questions quickly and have a 100% guarantee the tickets are real. The people that started it went to the U of I as well.

For electronic they require the bar code. For everything they require a credit card.

Note you can also ask to have the tickets shipped to your hotel. I've seen a lot of people who are flying on the 30th or 31st saying they are worried they won't have the tickets in hand yet, so this might be a solution.

The other thing is I know in Indianapolis Stubhub had a temp office set up in one of the hotels. I bet if you could prove who you are (you know, since this isn't a voting booth an ID might be required) they'd print them for you on the spot there.

Awesome story. I was worried you were there was an issue with ticket speculators that came up during the super bowl. With all the interest I fear were destined to have a bunch of Iowan's screwed over

We had a similar situation. Ironically we live in Southern California (South Orange County) but are coming back to the Midwest for holidays (12/27) returning home 12/31 for game.

We bought Stubhub tickets but wouldn't look at anything that didn't promise delivery by 12/25. Already have tickets in hand.

We've used StubHub for a variety of major events over the years - they've been great.

Tell your buddy at Stub Hub I would to be paid for the tickets I sold a week and half ago. Not a great selling experience.

I believe you get a check in the mail within a couple of weeks after selling them.

12 business days after confirmation the buyer receives tickets or 5 business days with PayPal.
